Help with humidity

Hello I'm pretty new to this I just got my first chameleon yesterday and I can't seem to keep the humidity up to where it needs to be. I plan on buying a humidifier but I don't have one yet. Does anyone know any good ways to increase my humidity? When I mist it just doesn't seem to help all that much

Usually a picture can help! i'm guessing you have a screen cage, so therefore a showere curtain round the cage can help.

If not, a few more plants and a revised misting schedule will work a treat!

Hello and welcome.
I bet yours is a mesh enclosure.. Like mine.:D
I found very helpful putting live plants and cover 3 sides of the enclosure with plastic. The humidity stay normally between 60 and 80%. In my case that worked quiet well.

Like what kind of plastic? and would you use a humidifier or anything?

Live plants are key in keeping humidity. You will need to mist your chameleons enclosure 3+ times a day. Usually live plants and regular mistings are suffecient. What type of chameleon do you have?

i guess i got lucky then, or i just did it how i need to for where i live, get as many live plants as u can, mist when needed, i do it by hand, 2-3 times a day with a dripper all day. i mist about 30oz at a time just cuz i dont want to have to water the plants later.
have u tryed checking the humidity in dif parts of the cage? i found on 1 side of my room only half the cage would be where it needed to be. so i moved the cage to the othe side of the room and its been fine since

I put some glad cling wrap on three of the sides, then i misted for a good 5 minutes and my humidity shot up right to where it needed to be! I think my chameleon is a lot happier now, I still need to get more plants though. Thanks for the help everyone!

I'm about to get a cham myself and I am worried about keeping humidity up. I'm curious about this plastic on 3 sides.

There's several ways to accomplish this, you can also apply appropriate sized soft trays (for Reptariums), or even use a shower curtain - these may be easier to clean than cling wrap. Plexiglass is also a good option.

As several posters mentioned, adding lots of live plants helps immensely with humidity. While the air around the sides of the cage may be dry, within the branches of a small ficus tree or within the leaves of a pothos plant, the relative humidity is much higher.

A trick we use in our stores is also to add a fogger or mister on a timer to your cages. Often the fog creates condensation that the chameleons can lick off the leaves, but the addition of moisture to the air is what is most beneficial. Our stores also all use a mist king system on their cages, and the timer function helps immensely in providing a regular misting for the chams.
