Help to identify

Heleen

Hi,

My name is Heleen. I live in Uganda on 1500 meter high. We have a lot of chameleons in our garden. Books about reptile are not easy to get, but I would like to know, what kind of chameleons we have. Can someone help?

Welcome Heleen:). I was able to find this.
Chameleons: In Uganda there are many chameleons but few to be seen. We know them best for being able to change their colors depending on the mood they are in rather than their background and surrounding.

Here in Uganda you might come across one along a path or a road as you travel or take a walk such as in the Foothills of the Rwenzori Mountain

Flap-Necked Chameleon: You can find in the savannah and wooded areas. It is around 15 cm long, bright and green in color, but they can grow to double in size and will turn tan or brown under certain conditions.

Graceful Chameleon: Yellow and green in color, and white stripe along the flanks of it.

Giant Chameleon: It is bulky and dark green in color with yellow stripes and a small horn. It feeds on on small reptiles and insects.

I'm going for the Flap-Necked Chameleon
Anyone else thoughts?

I don't see any flaps, on the back of the neck, or atleast not from the angle of this pic. So I say no on the Flapneck.

The above is a flapneck! I was trying to include this text with the picture. I am thinking Senegal chameleon, but not 100% sure.

Hi Heleen,

The chameleon in the photo you posted is an Elliot's Chameleon (Trioceros ellioti). They are quite common in parts of Uganda.

Best,

Chris

Thanks all very much for the advice! I have checked again, but it is not a flapnecket. The flaps are not visible. The picture I posted the colour seems very braun. But most of the time they are more colurful and with yellow and red marks (if angry). I have looked at other images of Elliot's Chameleon and they seems to match much better. Are there any ways to clearly identify elliot's?
