I want to get some hibiscus plants for my chameleons but if I get them at lowes or some flowers shops won't they have chemicals on the plants that can hurt them??

Your supposed to wash off your plants and repot them before putting them into the enclosure but if I were you I would think twice before getting a hibiscus because they do not hold up well indoors over long periods of time. I have killed a couple

What you should do is replace the soil with organic soil and water down the plants real well. Watering them down should get all the chemicals off the plant.

Most people recommend either a ficus or a shefflera (umbrella plant). I use the shefflera and use a dual t2 fixture with a reptisun 5.0 in one side for my uvb for the cham, and a ultrasun in the other spot for the plant and my shefflera is happy and growing. You can also put a hanging pothos in there, they do really well

I get most of my plants from lowes and repot and rinse really well and never have had a problem.

Except-

Every dang woody plant like hibiscus or ficus that I get from lowes comes with the scale pest. I hate that.

Kind of changes topic of original post, but anyone know a lizard-safe way to rid the plants of scale insects?

I've Killed one Ficus- using the remains for a climbing branch so not a total loss.
2 Hibiscus Dead all three in 2 month period.

I have a 2 shefflera that are doing marvelous and a Pothos also doing very well.
