Its thought that chameleons eat the sand/soil/substrate because they are lacking something in their diet. Many of my female veileds eat the sand around the time that they are going to lay eggs.
I have found a type of sand that (although not digested) seems to pass through them without causing impaction. This is only my experience and I can't guarantee that it won't cause a problem...but I've had lots of chameleons autopsied when they finally died and there was never any impaction. This is it...

If she is still using the top of the cage and moving around and not closing her eyes for most of the day then she is likely still okay. Hopefully she will lay the eggs without problem...just don't let her see you watching her when she is digging!
