Chameleon Info:
Your Chameleon - Ambilobe, male, about 1.5 years. Has been in my care since he was 4 months
Handling - Handle every other day, try to bring him outside everyday for some real sun since its summer, he's so good with people I have two little nieces, he's so patient with them
Feeding - Mostly crickets, hornworms, silkworms, butterworms for treats. Try to feed everyday but since he turned 1 he has not been a big eater. Try to mix it up so he doesn't get bored, just recently discovered he LOVES butterworms. Cricket get flukers high calcium diet
Supplements - Zoomed reptivite, calcium w/o d3, and calcium with d3. Gets Calcium W/O d3 5 times a week, reptivite twice a month and calcium with d3 twice a month
Watering - He gets misted 3x a day and he doesn't drink from his dripper so he is spoiled and gets from a 1ml dropper, yes he drinks from the misting and from the dripper
Fecal Description - This is part of the problem and ill explain it at the bottom, never been tested for parasites

Plants - I have live as well vines for climbing
Placement - Cage is in my room in the basement, lowest traffic area of the house, top of cage is about 5.5 feet from the floor
Location - We live in Alberta, Canada

Current Problem - He has never been a big eater and I recently found he loves butter worms very much so I have been trying to give them to him 2-3 times a week, 1 worm at a time to boost his appetite. About a week ago though I found the morning after I had given his his worm he had thrown it up. After that he refused to heat anything, so I read you can give them pedialyte with some calcium and vitamins to get them back into health. After 3 days of this I decided to give him a couple crickets before I left for work and he ate them up. When I got home we were hanging out on my bed like always when he pooped, which I thought was a good sign but then he kept pushing when everything was out, I pulled out, very carefully, a undigested butter worm. I put him back in the cage to wash my hands and when I came back he threw up his crickets from the morning, the worst part was the little squeak he made that almost broke my heart into pieces. Also very concerning are the dark sport on him that appeared overnight. I know this is extremely long but any help would be VERY appreciated. The first pic is him happy outside, the other two are the black spots

-A very concerned mother-

Ok I see three separate things going on here. Undigested food items and vomiting can be a sign of parasites, so I would get a fecal sample to a vet and have it checked out. It could be something else, but that is a possibility. The second pic looks as if he might have a slight burn on his spine. The spikes are darkened right in the area where the skin is black. Thirdly I think the butterworm caused the black marks on your chameleon. There have been several cases on here where butterworms have turned chameleons black(for whatever reason) in the mouth and head area. I fed my chameleon butterworms and the area around his turrets(eyes) turned dark black for a couple of days. I think that will go away. Could your chameleon have gotten too close to his basking light? They can also get burned by spending too much time under the light? What is your basking temp?

The discoloration on his mouth is likely from the butter worms. If you do a search you will find multiple instances of skin discoloration after butter worm feeding. My guys eat them and have not had any issues, however I have seen it happen a few times to others. As for the throwing up, you may want to see a vet to determine if he has some other illness going on.

You could also try not feeding butter worms for a while and see if he goes back to normal.

There is a picture in this thread

and it happened to a parsons in this thread

There are more but I cant find them now.

I also agree with Carol, the picture of his back looks like a burn. You may want to check the distance of your light to his basking area and ensure the temps are reading correctly. I keep my panthers at 88-90 and they do just fine.

First of all thank you for the quick replies, I haven't fed him butterworms for a few days so well see what happens. The baking temp is the same as your 88-90 so im actually not sure how he would have burned himself as it is a few inches off the screen. I think I will take him to a vet though to make sure everything is ok.
