So as you may have read both of my chams got some weird reaction to a butter worm. I gave them each half and their colors got all funky, now the weirded color has faded on my Zenia but Mal had had his left eye shut all day. I just checked on them and he was slill on the screen top sleeping! Like know sleep in the day is not a good sign, could he truly be that allergic to butters? Should I take him to the vet or should I give him a day or two? When I moved him from the screen he opened both eyes. So anyone who can give me a reply it would be greatly appreciated

I have never heard of a cham having those kind of issues with a butter worm. I would give them a couple days, if the strange colors are still there I would call the vet. Good Luck

I've actually found a few cases of the weird color change thing because of butterworms on the forums, so I know I'm not alone but I'm just worried for my baby :(

While I have no experience with alergies in chameleons - I have allergy problems and I think all you can do is wait at this point - I don't think there's much a vet can do -the effects will hopefully wear off soon - there was one chameleon who had an alergic reaction to his plant that I remember - It was a rescue and went to the vet for other problems but I don't know if he could do anything for the allergy

Zenia seems fine, her heads a little yellow but just barely, Mal on the other hand is keeping one eye closed quite a bit and neither of them will eat since the butter worm so I'm kinda concerned, they do seem to be improving though both color wise and Mal isn't bulging his eye out anymore. I've been giving them extra long warm mistings and I've NEVER seen them drink so much so I hope the water will flush out anything bad

Them drinking has to be a good sign!! They can go a lot longer without food than they can without water. Sounds like you are doing all the right things. Hang in there! We are here and will offer support if nothing else.

I do know there allergies to butter worms... are they veileds? I think it only affects veileds...? But if I'm wrong it'd be nice to know. I know that with allergies to butter worms in veileds the reaction is usually a black throat color.

Thank you! I love how supportive the people on these forums! I'll keep you guys updated on how they're doing.

:(

Poor little things! I have allergies it can really mess up my tummy from 3days to a week after. keep drinking lots of water and resting. Might be constipation too? Hope they feel better soon! Xx

Just an update, they're still drinking like crazy and both had orange urates today but I know their getting tons of water (spraying at least 5 times a day for 5 mins) but Mal is still got his eyes closed a lot, they aren't bulging like the one at first and they don't look dehydrated by any means I just think they're trying to flush their little systems. If it hasn't stopped in by Sunday I'll get them to the vet Monday. I hope a vet visit won't be necessary and I don't know if there's anything they can do about allergies.

So I'm really starting to worry, my male Cham is sleeping all day. It started with that darn butterworm but could it be something else as well? I don't know what to do except keep giving lots of water

Sorry to ear they are not improving. Were the butterworms orange in color? It's almost like they have some kind of acid in them.

When I had the problem with my Parson's it only affected one of them.

Yes they were orange, is that bad? I thought they were supposed to be orange

I'm so sorry to hear they aren't doing well! I know how it feels to have a sick cham, and it is so totally stressful! My fingers are crossed for all of you that they soon start to recover! If not, hopefully the vet on monday will be able to shed some light on the situation for you
