HELP: Nosy Be Sleeping Cycle?

I'm new to having a chameleon, i didn't even realize they sleep.

Yesterday my lights cut off at 8pm and my 5 month old Nosy Be went to the upper corner of his cage and fell asleep.

This morning, the lights cut on at 7:30am. My cham hasn't moved at all but he was awake. At about 8am, i touched him to make sure he was ok and he just puffed and hissed at me. I'm assuming he's not a morning person...Maybe he's not use to his new home? He was kept in a tiny glass enclosure all his life for 5 months, now he's in a 18x18x36" full mesh enclosure for the first time.

I finally got him to move (just put my finger under him and he climbed up), i just want to make sure he gets some basking time in before his first mist (10:30am). Since i've moved him he hasn't moved.

He's currently basking under my uvb light. His colors are a different and they look darker. Nothing brown/black, just a cool/dark blue. My room gets to about 65º at night.

Got too worried, and moved him to his basking spot. Forgot to mention his tail was curled when he wasn't moving.

Now he's basking and his tail is down. Also his colors are lightning up.

Anyone know what the problem could be? is this normal?

He's still settling in. If his eyes are open and he is alert, dont bother him for a week or two. Let him get used to the new light schedule, feeding times, misting, etc. he might not even eat for a few days but dont be alarmed. It's normal.

thanks, i feel alittle better now...

He's drinking from his little dripper now.

As for feeding, i did attempt to offer him dusted gutloaded crickets. He just wasn't interested at all, so I put about 7 in a cup inside his cage, hopefully he discovers them today.

Hunting

He finally started to hunt...

he's extremely slow, spent about 15 minutes blending in pretending to be a leaf then my mist king kicked on and he went for a cricket, missed and made a run for it.

He came back and stayed on a branch for about 45 minutes and started to turn dark. He looked stressed out.

I'm feeding him gutloaded medium sized crickets dusted w/ reptical calcium w/no D3.

He should be fine. You just changed his surroundings and they do tend to get a little weird. Last February I got a chameleon off the forum here from another member. This guy did not eat for like 10 or 11 days. He was super dark and did not want to move much in his cage. I found that getting him outside in the natural sunlight worked wonders!!! I know your situation is a little different as your chameleon is young. I am just stating that a new environment can throw them off for awhile and not to worry.

wow, i would of had a panic attack hah. So did you move his cage outside for good? or just took him outside here and there? I have a fairly large backyard, it's just this bay area California weather isn't so nice this year. Starting to get cold now that summer is coming to an end.

So far he's doing good now, i'm just too worried about my new cham! I want to make sure he's as healthy as he can be. But He just ate about 5 crickets just now, threw in 10 total.

I'm also going to try mixing in other feeders next week such as waxworms and maybe a little treat. Thinking about getting a Dubia roach for him, gotta look into it more if he can even eat one yet.

Anyways, yeah, it freaked me out but he was drinking water and I have read that the adults can go weeks without eating so as long as he drank I was worried but I did not think he was going to die or anything. I did not move the cage outside. I have two outdoor cages and I put him in there. I know living in Florida we have the luxury of great cham weather year round. Anyways, you are not alone in your worries with these guys! And just to let you know it does not stop when they grow into adults either!! lol

Yeah definitely just adjusting man, he has only been with you for a day so as carol said they act pretty weird. As for him sleeping on the screen actually Isabella did that just last night in some foliage lol its normal. He will find a place to snuggle in. But as for moving slow he just needs time in the morning to warm up. Its good that he let you give him a little boost to move him into his basking spot. But its nothing to worry about considering he ate lol Glad to know that he is settling in for you though, you'll see in a couple of days that he will start getting comfortable and used to a daily routine.
