I have a panther chameleon that is between 5-7 months old. he is going through his first shed with me and it isn't going well. he has some stuck shed but that is not really the problem. he is very slow and lethargic and his eyes are closed for most of the day. I know that this is not good at all he can also barely shoot his tongue out to catch his crickets. there is also a lump under his left eye but this may just be stuck shed. I don't know if hes just dehydrated or is lacking vitamins. please help me with your opinions or what I should do I don't want to loose my panther!

Chameleon Info:

Your Chameleon – Panther Chameleon, 6-7 months, I have had him for around 2 months
Handling – I handle him often probably most days out of the week
Feeding – small crickets around 10 of them dusted with calcium and reptivite
Supplements – usually feed everyday or every other day.
Watering – minute long misting multiple times a day and the occasional shower. When the cham takes a shower he drinks but usually not in his cage
Fecal Description – droppings are black and white. He has not been tested for parasites.
History – no other real info

Cage Info:

Cage Type – he’s in a small reptibreeze with a 5.0 uvb and heat lamp. Hes on a timer of 8am to 9:30pm
Temperature – basking spot is high 80’s close to 90’s and floor of the cage is around mid to low 70’s. I use a in tank thermometer.
Humidity – I don’t know my humidity levels.
Plants – fake plants except when he showers then I use a small indoor bamboo plant.
Placement – the tank is on top of a dresser near a vent but is still a good six feet away from the vent so I don’t think it creates a problem. Tank is located in my room so I guess it is high traffic.
Location – the North Eastern part of the United States. New York state.

Current Problem – My chameleon seems weak I don’t know if it is because he is dehydrated or if he is having a tough shed right now because he is going through his first shed with me and it is not a good shed. He also has a lump under his left eye but I think it is just stuck shed he keeps his eyes closed most of the day unless I cause some kind of stimulation for him to “wake up”. He doesn’t seem up to eating either. I don’t know what could be up with him please help.

I may be wrong, but I don't think he should be getting the vitamins everyday, more like every 2 weeks with the calcium w/D3. Calcium without D3 everyday.

I have been feeding him the calcium every feed I have been doing the vitamins every other feed but I will try to pull back on the vitamins. thanks for the help

Besides cutting back on the vitamin use you may want to add a dripper for water. Also if you could post a picture it would help us.

7 month old panther should have at least an 18"x18"x36" cage size. Linear UVB 5.0 bulb replaced every 6 months (or year depending on brand) on a 12hr cycle, not 13 1/2. Ca 4-5 times a week. Ca w/D3 and multivitamins twice a month on rotating weeks. Humidity of at least 45-55%. Mine receive mistings every hour, sometimes an extra if deemed. Feeder variety is important (crickets, dubia, silkworms, hornworms, flies, moths, butterflies, superworms, mantids, etc...) panthers are very much like jacksons, mostly they won't show illness until too late. Seek help from a vet on that eye.

Crickets, roaches, locusts, superworms can be fed/gutloaded with a wide assortment of greens such as collards, escarole, endive, dandelion greens, kale, etc and veggies such as carrots, sweet red pepper, squash, zucchini, sweet potato, etc.
