hey everyone!
i am new to the forum, but it has been my bible for the past month! My boyfriend and i purchased a jackson chameleon a month ago on a whim. We were going to get a hand picked captive bred baby online BUT we went to petsmart to get our bearded dragon something and saw her. Her and her brother there both there, we were informed they were 4 months old and they came from a breeder together. The boy was sadly black as anything and he was on the ground scratching at the tank as soon as i looked in there it was heart wrenching. She looked like a chubby baby and we felt so bad we had to rescue one from that horrid place. So we've had her for alittle over month now and she has been a gem! Until last week on 7/3/12 i woke up to 6 baby chameleons! I am new to chameleons and still learning, but she gave birth and after we acted like a new chameleon. Shes all over the cage in spots ive never seen before! She is so much more active but today when i woke up her foot swoll up like a ballon! I didnt get to see her yesterday but my mom fed and misted her for me and mentioned it was swelling. but i was astounded at what i saw! But it doesnt seem to affect her at all, she still moves like lighting, shes all over the place! I am freaking out! my boyfriend is going to take her tomorrow! She had 6 babies all alive, some have little deformities. One I named boo boo hes little back feet dont see to open! :( its heart wrenching! is there anything i can do?! any advice at all would be AMAZING!! you have no idea im hysterical!

So much it could be. I just went through the same thing (not the babies but the leg) with my guy. My guys was an abscess. Not to say that's what it is but it's a possibility. Good that your taking her to the vet. Good owners do that. It's very important to bring her in ASAP
Good luck and calm down. Things will work out. At least you noticed the problem before it gets worse!

I would definitely second the vet suggestion. I haven't dealt with chameleon babies, but I know they can be difficult to care for for the first couple of months. Stories like yours are happening very commonly at Petsmart and Petco, it's pretty frustrating to saddle new keepers not just with a chameleon to care for, but suddenly a load of babies! Read read read the forums on care for baby Jacksons, it can be very simple, but small changes can make a huge difference to those babies. It's probably a good idea to take them to the vet along with their mum just to make sure they are all okay. If the deformities are too severe, it may be kindest to have some of them put to sleep, or the vet may be able to help you rehome them.

Can you post the help form that you've seen us ask everyone else for when asking for help? It will give us better information on your situation and means we can better help you and your baby, and her babies!

Sounds like th ebabies are a result of inbreeding. which is what caused the deformities.

also, your female is much older than 4-5 months old. as it takes at least that long for them to give birth.

i hope you have removed the babies from her cage.

we need pics of teh babies, pics of the leg, and the help form.

get that, and we can go from there.

also,m the babies need tiny food, like fruit flies, and pin head crickets. and lots of water.

Hi! What a way to jump into chameleon keeping! I agree with everything that's been said.

The babies can be kept in something like a fish tank for the moment. One of those foldable laundry baskets would work as well. Put some stuff in there for them to climb on (look in the "breeding" forum...you could even use chopsticks to build a little jungle gym) as well as some leaves for hiding. You'll need to get fruit flies or pinhead crickets for them to eat. Petsmart and Petco might have fruit flies.
