Hello everyone,

I have a female Senegal chameleon named Camille. I have had her over a year, she's simply amazing. I have her in a reptibreeze cage, screen like. its the larger one. Have a heat emitter a daytime blue light, and a red basking light. She gets all natural uv as I take her out on the porch when the sun is out at least once or twice a day and she loves hanging out on the blinds and soak up the sun. Eats meal worms, dusted with vitamins couple times a month. (but also have a uv bulb for colder days)
She is very active and recently she's been just not herself. her tounge hasn't shot out for a week or so. so she been getting close and just getting the worm with the tip of her tongue. but the other day she went for a meal worm and she grabbed it by its tail and the worm latched onto her eye!! she freaked out and like lost her balance from her bamboo plant. I grabbed her so she didn't fall and she was swinging her head around trying to get the worm loose and he wouldn't let go, so I sprayed water and he finally let go and she ate him. but she hasn't eaten since, and shes been sleeping a lot. if I go to pick her up she will open her eyes and crawl on me quickly and lay on my hand and fall back to sleep. I just don't know what it is. like is she traumatized from the worm? is she hibernating?? dying?? I have a reptifogger I have on, I steam up the bathroom and put her in there on a plant. she loves that. i know i take care of her im just at a loss right now.. help!!

I am sorry to hear about your little girl Camille. I use to have a Camille that was very special to me. I think you should be giving her calcium without D3 a couple of times a week, calcium with d3 once a month and a multi Vit. Twice a month. Even though you have her on the screen porch not allot of UVB passed through screen. I have a screen porch and a UV meter and have checked my porch and in some areas no UVB at all but a little right up against the screen....but not enough to stop using calcium. Females need calcium. The supplements or lack of supplements could be causing the tongue problem. She also needs a large variety of feeders and not just mealworms. Mealworms are not that great of a feeder for chameleons and I personally don't use them. You are very lucky that you have a good chameleon vet there in the Denver area. She is an active member here on the forums. Her name is Dayna and this is her CF page. I recommend you send her a PM and see where she's practicing at now and set up an appointment to take Camille in right away, before it's to late.
