HELP,Liquid coming out of eye!

:( My poor little Amadeaus who has been fighting eye issues for over 1 month now has liquid coming out of his eye. He has been to 2 different vets and both said nothing is wrong. 1 did suggest using Vit A but everything else checked out ok. But still the same eye would stay slightly to fully closed. He had improved since using Vit A slightly. He has been eating and drinking like normal, checking out his cage, hissing when i bothered him, but his eye was always not fully opened. A couple of days ago i had him out and was putting turtle drops in that eye and when i held him my I think my hand kinda hit his eye and some liquid squirted out. Well i wasn't looking do i didn't know if he had spit out something from his mouth or what. The next day hubby thought he saw a small bump on his eye and was looking at it and i told him about the prior day. We couldn't see what was causing the "bump". The next day i was holding him to give him his vit a and my hand hit his eye again and this time i was watching and i noticed a clear liquid oozing out of his eye,.almost like he was crying. What could this possibly be? I am petrified for him. He has another vet visit tomorrow am but these guys really know nothing about chams and i'm afraid it is just wasting my time and money and my Amadeaus precious eyesight. Can anyone help me with ideas as to what this could possible be? I will keep you informed of what the vet does say.

Thanks in advance,
Debby

From what you are describing, my guess would be an eye infection. Oozing can be caused by inflammatory buildup around the blood vessels. It may also be caused by a ruptured eye. Be very careful about dosing Vit A since it can lead to hypervitaminosis. Has the vet done blood work? Have they done blood culture? Fecal? The blood work is very essential on finding what the underlying issue might be. I'm sure you've seen this thread about my Aegean (ambanja) having eye problems.

If you feel that the vet is just playing around, even if they have good intentions, you could consider stopping taking your chameleon there.

He started to show closed left eye and puffiness around it. His eating had almost stopped. It was later found to be staph and strep infection, and he was put on antibiotics. To further complicate the situation, he scratched his left eye rubbing on branches. Now he's had about 15 injections so far and he's on close watch.

I'm also sure that you've seen this page but just in case: http://www.herpvetconnection.com/newhamp.shtml

How's his eating/drinking? Does he rub his eye too often? If so, how long has he been rubbing? Can you please post some clear pictures?

This new vet seems really good but thanks for that thread, i had not seen it before. I believe he said that it was probably some kind of ,god i'm having a brain cramp, cyst and when i touched his eye it drained it or something like that. He gave me some drops to put in 4 times a day and said that he should be alright but that his eye will probably never be the same again. He hasn't rubbed his eye for a long time and actually had it open quite a bit at the vets office.

Is your guy still on the meds? Is he going to be ok?

That's awesome news. Keep us posted.

Yes, our Aegean is still on medications and he's getting close attention. He's eating well and drinking even better. I don't know if he'll get well, but it's been couple months like this and I'm not going to give up as long as he's holding on. I think he really liked last week's outdoors session. I'm going to do it again this weekend.

As long as he has the will, i commend you not giving up. I am the same way. I had a female panther that was really sick but you could tell she had the will and i nursed her for a month and she recovered nicely. You'll know when he has had enough. He'll tell you. Good luck.
