Hi
Today I walked in and my chameleon had his mouth open a quauter of the way. He was just sitting there with it open. He was at the bottom ish of the cage. The minute I opened the cage his closed his mouth and came to greet me as usual, to then noticed I had the fan heater I have in the room was on full blast heat! (When I first walked on I thought it was too hot) and then I looked at the digital thermometer and it was 39.9C. I assumed this is why cos he was too hot and he was at the cool part of the cage. But I just want your guys opinion, is it worth a vet check? I'm keeping a eye on him. (The fan heater in the room is only on at night I accidentally left it on today I know very irresponsible :( )
Thanks guys

Sounds as if he was too hot. You do know that chams need a drop in temp at night of at least 10 degrees, right? Unless the room gets colder than 50 F at night you shouldn't need a heater, but if you use the heater fan for yourself, you don't want it to keep the room at a constant temp all the time. Can you control your heat fan with a thermostat or a timer so this doesn't happen again?

The temp normally drops to about 17 at night, and the heater bumps it to 23C, I turn it off when the lights come on, it's only cos I had a bit of a emergency today I forgot to turn it off, and yes I know about the drop in temperature

At 39.9 degrees Celsius, I'd probably be gaping too

17 degrees celsius at night is fine.

To quote from the very helpful forum Panther caresheet located here https://www.chameleonforums.com/care/caresheets/panther/
Nighttime temperatures can safely drop down to 50F (10C) so a night heat source should not be used unless temperatures are lower than this.

You should be sure to give him some additional nice long extra mistings today to help rehydrate.
We all make mistakes.
