HELP! I have a cham and know nothing about it

? likes to swim....., that has got to be the first lol, i would say a luke warm shower if a shower is whats available, but you can always mist (once again with luke warm water) or set up a dripper system, or the most common both
 
I wouldn't suggest cold water. Use warm to hot water, bounce it off the wall so your chameleon isn't getting it straight from the nozzle.

You can make a dripper out of a plastic cup or bottle. Just poke some holes in the bottom. You can spray with a regular spray bottle or the sort of "pump up" bottle used to spray plants.

It's not unheard of for a chameleon to swim, but I don't think I'd set it up so there's standing water in the enclosure.
 
At first he had a water fountain, but than I found out it is not a good ideea, so he turned it into an indoor river with a little pond in the middle (flowing water)

He told me that he like to take baths and sit in the water from time to time, and cross from one end to the other (I guess its not deep water, ~4,5cm)


I will make a sprinkler system but I thought it might be a cool ideea for the cham to take showers from time to time, helps him keep clean btw, I will use misting too

P.S. God dammit, still sleeping on needles until he arrives
 
Back with some feedback, I got the cham at my gfs house.

So, I arrived at the owers house at about 7:30-8:00PM, and he looked a little lazy and slow, maybe it was from the cold or something, how long do chams last without food? and maybe water? Beacause he refused those for a while

I gave him some tap water(dripped) but no food, now he has a very ligh colored (gray) I got a little scared beacause he wasn't very active and his grip was kind of weak compared to the last days, is that very bad? Will this one die too? :|

How long have you had him? You just got him, right? Ive heard they can last up to around two weeks without food, but I obviously wouldn't try it. Usually when they're introduced into a new environment, they're stressed and need time to adapt. While they are adapting to they're new environment, they may refuse to eat. My little guy didn't eat for the first 5 days he was with me. As for the water, they will usually drink it when you're not around (if they're stressed or scared of you). As long as he doesn't look dehydrated (eyes sunken in head), and his urates remain white, you're okay with water.

edit: Along with the dripper, you need to mist him 2-3 times daily. It will help him stay hydrated.

Hope doean't die, the other owner had him for 4 days and i have him for 2h.

I don't use tap water and don't really recommend it. I use bottled water.

Its poop. You'll know it when you see it. But if he's not eating, there is no poop.

Just give him a little time to settle in. Can you upload pictures as well?

It would also be very helpful to fill this out.

Chameleon Info:
Your Chameleon - The species, sex, and age of your chameleon. How long has it been in your care?
Handling - How often do you handle your chameleon?
Feeding - What are you feeding your cham? What amount? What is the schedule? How are you gut-loading your feeders?
Supplements - What brand and type of calcium and vitamin products are you dusting your feeders with and what is the schedule?
Watering - What kind of watering technique do you use? How often and how long to you mist? Do you see your chameleon drinking?
Fecal Description - Briefly note colors and consistency from recent droppings. Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites?
History - Any previous information about your cham that might be useful to others when trying to help you.

Cage Info:
Cage Type - Describe your cage (Glass, Screen, Combo?) What are the dimensions?
Lighting - What brand, model, and types of lighting are you using? What is your daily lighting schedule?
Temperature - What temp range have you created (cage floor to basking spot)? Lowest overnight temp? How do you measure these temps?
Humidity - What are your humidity levels? How are you creating and maintaining these levels? What do you use to measure humidity?
Plants - Are you using live plants? If so, what kind?
Placement - Where is your cage located? Is it near any fans, air vents, or high traffic areas? At what height is the top of the cage relative to your room floor?
Location - Where are you geographically located?

Current Problem - The current problem you are concerned about.
 
Erm damn, lots of hard quieations, i live in romania, so the brand, is its factory made prolly wont corespond with your stuff.

I'm sorry. Are chameleons not available openly in Romania? Because, I have to tell you, any "underground" pet is going to be difficult.
 
Not "underground" or illegal, its just that its unpopular, and I live in a smaller border city, exotic pet owners who own chams live in larger cotoes and I will goget suplies from them, well at least they are dirt cheap, the mediteraenian was 75$ and a veilded is ~

I do not know if it is male or female, exactly what kind of chameleon it is (I vote for Furcifer pardalis)

It's not a Panther Chameleon Furcifer pardalis, it's a Common Chameleon Chamaeleo chamaeleon. AKA Mediterranean Chameleon and European Chameleon because it's the only species of chameleons that live in Europe

What exactly should I feed it (are fishing worms or grasshoppers ok?)

Yes, they are
Grasshoppers, locusts and crickets are the best food for chameleons
And you will notice that the chameleon really loves these types of food

Any special needs...

Well, this needs a long reply :p but I think if you found this chameleon in the garden it will be easier to care for it

Because the pets themselves aren't illegal just it's not allowed in school dorms?

I understand that, but there's the whole way the chameleons were acquired, it was like they just came into being, there were no stores or breeders involved. I guess Squamata's right and the chameleons were just found.

What we were told is that they were purchased by the owner of a Fish and exotic reptile store, that simply never have had any experience with Chameleons.
And not surprising, they both didn't make it.

I'd assume the owner was told "hey, we got these 2 chameleons, any chance you want them?"

And here we are now.


Also crap that's odd, I assumed that comment about "squamata" was referring to me, then I see someone with that name. Wacky! lol
