help - I found a chameleon

found a chameleon in my yard and he/she doesn't look good.

I don't know how to take care of a chameleon and I don't have time to learn and I don't want a chameleon - but I don't want it to suffer.

it's in a box with a branch and I have been able to get a couple drops of water into its mouth and two meal worms but I read that they need to eat 20-30 a day.

I live in north county San Diego, is there anywhere I can take it.
what do I do? Every time I look in the box I expect it could be dead - the poor thing needs someone who knows about chameleons.

do u have a lamp of somekind that u can put over the box to give it light and heat? it needs heat asap. just need a regular housebulb for warmth. try to get it like 8 or so inches above wherever its perched.

would you be able to run to a petstore? if so get a bag of crickets for like $2 and a bottle of zilla calcium supplement spray. give three drops of zilla supplement orally.

chams wont drink water from a bowl like most animals. they need moving dripping water. or droplets on leaves/glass/screen. do you have a mister? fill it with hot water so itll mist somewhat warmish and mist somthing i described and see if it will drink. if it looks all boney/diformed use the calcium supplement, just 3 drops in its mouth. itll give it a boost.

If it is 70 or above I would not really worry about heat-I would worry about getting it to someone that knows about chams.

OK - all my light bulbs have been changed out to the florescent but I got one of the bulbs from the vanity mirror in the bathroom and suspended a small lamp above the box.
I had put a nightlight in the box last night but was afraid to do much more for fear of possibly starting a fire - but now I can keep an eye on the box and after it warms up a bit more here in San Diego I can put the box out in the sun
thank you for your reply

thank you everyone

I would like to thank everyone for your help.

Forum member cslinca happened to live 30 minutes from me and was a real godsend.

Cslinca has other reptiles and by the time I delivered my chameleon had a picture perfect environment set up. No sooner had my chameleon been set on a branch then it spoted a nice mealworm and got it! That was a welcome sign.

When I took the chameleon from my house it was in the same place it was last night and I wondered if it could even move. However, when I set the box in the sun, before putting it in the car, it started to move.

It is very skinny and weak and could not get a good grip on a branch, so cslinca moved it to a smaller environment with more greenery than branches. Cslinda managed to drip some water into its mouth.

I am so relieved that I found someone like cslinca. The chameleon is in bad shape but is now in good hands, and if it's at all possible will regain its health.

Thank you so much cslinca.

Thank you to both of you for the work you have done! Hopefully this little guy will survive and have a happy life! :)

Thanks again!

Chamfreeleo escapeus in black and white barred pattern, or maybe it was the orange jumpsuit phase sub-species found mostly along side freeways.

Lol! But I am really eager to know what this cham is lol. Would be something if it was an escapee parsons! What a bargain ;) Though that is highly unlikely and probably a veiled or panther.

So it's a Jackson! My guess would of been a veil. I know there has to be a few wild veils in my neighborhood. I hatch out lots of babies, and I have a few that escape each year, while I clean plants and cages. I usually find them 6 months later sleeping in backyard bushes, at night. Well feed, I might add.
