Help!!! He fell down and the branch fell onto his tail... now there’s a black spot(no blooding)

Hi all, my 5month old panther baby cham Picasso just fell off from high cage top today. Long story short, he just finished shedding yesterday. I normally take him out side for natural basking under the sun from 7-10 am. Today it’s rainy heavily and I decided to let him out in the living room while I work on his new cage. I put a branch on top of the cage and another one on the side for him to slowly climb up and rest on the branch on top. But the branch I put on top didn’t hold his weight when he climb up and it fell down...he fell with the branch and the branch fell onto his tail when they landed on the ground...I saw it happened in slow motion in front of my eyes and now he has tail looks like this ( please see pictures ) he went on to my hand as soon as I pick him up . He didn’t change color much after he fell. I feel really guilty and it’s my fault for being so careless.

Update: we just came back from the vet, luckily he didn’t wait long and it didn’t stress him much until the doctor took him off my head and weight him and check his tail and body. The doctor said there’s no need for x ray as there isn’t much they can do even if the bone was broken...he did suggest me to do the laser for 5 min as it will help him with the circulation and blood flow on the tail. He also gave me some liquid med ( once a day squeezed onto feeder) for a few days.

Question: has anyone has similar experience and have any tips to help healing faster? The doctor only said to keep him under the UVB or natural sun and dust the feeders.
Thanks for the read and I would appreciate any feedback or comments ...

Joy

He'll be fine. The fact he can use his tail says alot. Injuries happen. The only question is can they overcome it. At least you didn't deal with this.....

He fell. Nothing more. Busted his central horn well into the skull. Despite a solid vet and a keeper that can seemingly treat anything, he still didn't make it. Your fellow looks fine. Just look for swelling. If you see that he needs meds for an infection.

My youngest guy got tagged by a bee on his tail. It swelled, turned dark, turned lighter, and then nothing. All the time, he ate, drank and is fine. Chams bruise super easy! Don’t worry unless he shows a significant change in behaviour

Thanks for your reply and so sorry for your lost :( Jackson’s are super rare in Taiwan. It came up in the conversation when I called the admin of Taiwanese Cham fb group and ask if he has any recommended vet in my city. I did my homework but just wanted to double check. He gave me the name of the same vet/reptile clinic. We got to talk about chams and I asked about Jackson’s as I never seen them around. He said for some reason they don’t survive over two years here. And most babies die before two month :(. He only know one person having Jacksons in the high mountain but the success rate is still very low. They are beautiful !
I’ll look for signs of swelling and hopefully he will have a speedy recovery
PS. At the clinic, the vet told me sometimes the black would spread and then the whole tail needs to be ✂️ cut and I think my heart stopped a little... after all I was responsible for his fall...(sigh)

Sounds like you did all the right things after the fact. Just keep a close eye on him. Hoping for a speedy recovery.
Thanks Gingero :)
I will definitely be more careful when I have him out in the future. When he was basking yesterday I see him even put his tail up close to the UVB ... the only thing is the weather has been really bad( super rainy and dark) so I can’t take him outside for some natural ☀️ sun . But hopefully the UVB in the cage will be enough for his recovery. I use zoomed 10.0.

At the clinic, the vet told me sometimes the black would spread and then the whole tail needs to be ✂ cut"...the vet is correct IMHO...it can spread and the black part can become necrotic/dead and if that happens it will have to be cut off above where it dies....however...lets hope it's just a bruise and it will be ok. Fingers crossed!

Hi Kaizen
Thanks for your msg ...makes me feel better :) I only had him for just one and a half month and I want to take good care of him and be a responsible owner. It’s great I found this forum and I can ask questions to more experienced owners ... thanks again and have a good day :)

It will break my heart if that happens and knowing I am responsible for him losing his tail would be terrible :( I thought I was doing a good job with him eating and shedding better and setting up new cage... can’t believe he falls from the top of new cage before he even starts to enjoys it
Fingers crossed

Hi all :) An update on little P( aka Picasso)’s tail injury that happened earlier this month. He is recovering good and enjoys his outdoor time daily. The black on his tail is getting lighter and he is able to lollipop his tail when sleeping fine. I am very happy about his recovery and as today is my birthday so I thought I’d share some pictures of him this morning as a little celebration

Hope everyone has a great day ❤️
