Hi everyone need some help. I have a nosey be that mated on 6/5/12 and she is gravid, when should I put the egg laying substrate? I originally added the 5 gallon bucket on the 15th was it too early? Do I leave it in the cage?

A little worried for her.

Not to early at all she coulda had it the day she mated but it's okay to wait a lil while I'm sure. They do need 100% access to the lay bin and some not all but some Chams like to burry there eggs next to plant roots so u could but a small plant in there too. Make sure it has very good drainage so it doesn't become waterlogged and u will be fine until she is about to be laying them in the bin then u want to cover her cage on all four sides with towles and leave her alone check on her and if she is not laying yet keep giving her regular mistings until she goes low towards the bin then leave her alone and check on her every 24 hours as laying can take up to 72 hours and when she is done she will be skinny and have dirt on her u want to give her a really good misting and some liquid calcium if u have it and of course a couple cricks dusted with calcium as she will be hungry

Welcome to the forums. The female normally lays around 30 days after mating. After the female reaches 5 months old they should have access to a laying bin at all times so you don't miss the signs of needing to lay. I use playsand and I would not recommend a plant. These little girls work hard to dig, lay and cover their eggs and it's much harder for them to have to dig through plant roots. I have an egg laying/ laying bin blog that I'm linking for you below. I hope that you will find it helpful.
