HELP - Distended tongue

My Oustalet lost his tongue after he broke the bone in his lower jaw and it was uneven at the break (he got out into the wild backyard for a few days...I think he tried to eat a bird).

The tongue hung up on the edge of the break and he couldn't pull it back in. When I found him his tongue was dry and cold. Took him to the vet, who wired his lower jaw bones together and amputated his tongue...DOUBLE TRAUMA!

He lived a few more years being hand fed (he was free range in my house...I don't do that anymore) spraying water in his mouth for drinking and general nurturing (which I love to do).

Not sure what he died of though. I didn't know his age, he was a rescue. He had a bad attitude toward everybody but me. His previous owner would try to get him to eat by flicking the back of his head until he gaped and would throw the cricket in (stuuupid).

Antibiotics are a must. Without an infection there is hope :) Good luck!
