HELP!! black tail

hey guys i was given 2 veiled chameleons they live in the same tank it's see through kind of plastic i think the and really i don't think they are well at all first they don't eat but they drink when i drip water near them they move alot at day but at night they sleep like 13-14 hours without moving a muscle this happen too suddenly so i don't know anything about what's going on i read i need a mesh cage and uvb and uva lights so what other alternatives that will keep them healthy untill i find those stuff i live in egypt so i don't know where sell this kind of stuff that's for the male the female one has black tail it changes color but it's always darker than the rest of the body while in really hot sun the difference is barely noticeable but at mid temp or at night it's totally black ... please help i hate to see those 2 die and if anyone know where to buy those stuff from egypt tell me and btw they are 3 months old i could not take a clear pic of her in the tank so i took her out ... please help ASAP

They need to be separated as soon as possible.

I don't think they are veiled chameleons by he look of the one in your photo.

If the temperature is warm enough you can take them outside to get some natural UVB from the sun, but don't leave them in the plastic cage while they are out there. You could make a temporary cage for each of them by getting some screen or hardware clothe and rolling it into a cylinder that you stand on end with another piece of screen over the top of it.

What insects do you have available to feed them? Can you buy some or do you have to use wild one you catch?
 
i already separated them in different tanks because the female started attacking the male but i stopped her but whenever i just show up or just put my hand there she just stop and she never done that with me so i thought they are the kind that does not let the male come near the female after mating for some kind of defense or whatever i put them both now in separate tanks the is just normal one i don't anything yet like i mentioned above so how can i warm them in the time being with no UVA light ? can i use a heater or smth ... idk iam really worried they don't make it i have them for 2 days now and they did not eat anything i think
about the insects ... flies , ants idk what else that big black ants ... untill i find someone that actually sell those i think i will have to catch some for them
 
I would not feed them ants, they're not a good feeder for anything other than an animal that eats ants exclusively. They have a nasty bite. I'm not sure what insects you have available by you, but be very careful feeding wild caught insects. They may have come into contact with pesticides or poison and can make your chameleons sick or even kill them. Also, watch for "warning colors" on the insects. Some insects are brightly colored to "advertise" that they're toxic to potential predators. Are there any pet stores by you, that have crickets and other feeders like that?

It's good that you separated them. The males and females don't usually live together, they just get together to mate and then go their separate ways.
 
what about worms that is sold at fish stores can they eat that ?? any kind of dry food or plants ?? what about that dark tail of hers the male's whole body is the same color is that an infection ? she use it when she it trying to go up a tree of smth and it changes colour but it's always darker than the rest of the body
 
Being in a tank you will need to feed them a lot at 3 months. Normally 10-15 appropriate size insects a day or what every they eat for a period of time 2-3 times a day. Mine ate like a horse when he was 3 months. He could easily eat 20 a day if not more. Are you misting them? They will need to be done a good couple of times a day to ennoble them to drink. They will not drink from standing water and only from droplets on plant leaves. You need to fill te form I posted and put in every detail. If they are in a glass tank then they will not get the required uvb from the sun as glass blocks it out, this is why we use mesh and also to give plenty of ventilation

Did you do any reading on them before getting one because (without sounding horrible) you clearly didn't have all the required basic info on keeping them. I spent about 4-5 months of getting as much knolage on them as I could and making sure I had the right set up etc
 
As for the tail think I will have to let someone else comment on that. What worms are they? There are many worms you can feed them but not as a staple diet as most do not have the right nutrients. Meal worm, silkworms, hornworms, butterworts, waxworms, super or Mario worms are the most common feeders we give them but mostly as a treat and not a staple.

You need to gut load te feeders with fruit and veg so you get the maximum out of the food.

Please fill out the form I posted to you. We need to know everything
 
Welcome to the forum. Looks to me like the chameleon in the photo is a veiled, and likely female. They can turn black on their back half when they are becoming egg bound. I would also say she looks much older than 3 months. I'd say six at least. And if the male is around the same age, then those eggs could be fertile. Most important at this stage, if she is gravid and she doesn't lay those eggs ASAP, she could die.

As for feeders, if you can find some crickets or grasshoppers of suitable size, those will work well for now.

Get your female in a laying bin and let us know how she's doing. Good luck!
 
i clearly said that they were forced on me i either take them or they die so idk what the hell should i do ... back to the topic i have a garden and i read the temp should be 75 to 80 F which is the air temp in egypt so should i just put them outside and for how much time ? they turn to brighter colors when they are exposed to the sun
 
They will sleep like that through the night. They go to bed in the early evening hours and then sleep until the next morning. What is not normal is sleeping during the day. They do not sleep or even nap during the day. If you find them with their eyes closed, then you have a problem.

can u explain to me how to gut load them ? about the form i don't really know much that's why i did not fill it
 
I wasn't being funny and if that's the case I'm sure you will learn quickly to help them. What's the night time temp in Egypt? As long as it doesn't go below 65 or 60 at a push the. They will be ok outside. In face they will do better outside because you will need uvb and possible a heat lamp if you have them inside.

You use a lot of healthy items like fruit and veggies and some grains. Sandrachameleon has a great blog on here about gutloading. You can try reading that. First and foremost as I said, I belive the cham in your photo is a gravid female and needs a laying bin ASAP.
 
Well most of use have the luxury of buying insects that are suitable to feed chameleons on tap so what we do is put them in a tank/tub and feed them on fresh fruit and veg daily. Just throw it in or put it in a shallow container. A lot also use something like Dino fuel or bug burger as either a powder or paste which you cook in the microwave and then give to the insects. Search those two I mentioned and you could mail order it but you need insects firsts. Do you not know of anywhere that sell reptiles? You should also find out what worms the fish show sell too as that could help until you find some her that sell other insects
 
i found a pet shop that can take care of them so iam giving them away wish them luck they did not eat for 2 days will they make it ?? it's like 1 hour ride
 
btw i made the laying bin and whenever i try to put the female there she just sticks her nails in my fingers she does not wanna go in there no matter what
 
It's very common for chameleons to not eat for a few days when they're put into new surroundings. Some animals even go on a hunger strike if they get get bored with the food they're offered. It usually won't hurt an animal that's healthy. I wouldn't try putting the female in the laying bin, just let her find it on her own, leave it in the bottom of her cage. Hopefully if she needs it she'll use it. Just make sure that the soil won't cave in on her if she digs a tunnel.
