Help!! bad tempered veiled

my female veiled is showing all signs of wanting to mate and when we put her and the male together she was very receptive. However male started off looking as though he was interested but suddenly attacked her, bit onto her abdomen and wouldnt let go!! She became very distressed we tried to seperate them immediately but he was really latched on. We managed to get him off but she now has a bite mark!! Why did he do this?? Their last mating was really succesfull.

It is hard to tell. That did not sound like a good encounter. I would wait a few weeks and try again, but first hold her outside his cage and see if he shows signs of aggression.
