ok so my sambava has a free range on top of his cage ...aand some times he seems too busy trying to get out of his cage and pouting by the door of his cage and wont eat and as soon as i open the door to try and feed him he makes a run for it and treys to get out and pays no attention to the feeders....i don't know what to doo..like today i was trying to feed him but he just wouldn't eat well he ate one super worm...instead he wanted out of his cage every chance he gets and i also try to feed him when he's out free ranging but he wont eat...as soon as he gets to come out of his cage hhe gets brighter like he's happy to be out...any one have this problem?what should i do???

how often are you trying to feed him?

and what are you offering to feed him?

I'm trying to feed him super worms and crickets i tryed Dubai roaches and he won't eat them and some aditional grass hoppers when i can catch\find some ..he is almost one year old I'm trying to feed him every day his cage is 24x24x48..

well his cage is big enough, but maybe stop feeding him everyday.

as they get older, they dont have to eat as much.

my adult males eat every other dya to every two days.

Can you post some pics of your cage setup please?

Here's his set up and there he is by the door waiting for me to let him out..as soon as i opened his cage today he made a run for it

Ok, I am relatively new to Chameleons and this stuff, but that bit you've got above his enclosure looks like LOADS of fun! No wonder he wants to be out up there :-D he's gorgeous by the way too! Will be interested to read the replies to this post :)

That's if any one eles ansers..but yeah he doesn't take kindly to being in his cage all day...its kinda nerv wrecking some times but its my fault i would like to leave him out all day but i can't cause I'm not home all day and he trys to climbe down from his free range and his free range is in my living room.i don't wanna lose him...

Well, duh!! Can you blame him?!? Look at that Disney World he has outside of his house! I'd be chomping at the bit to get out too! :D Great setup and beautiful Cham! :)

You can try placing one of those Sunny D cricket death traps somewhere by the free-range, but he'll eat when he's hungry enough. He won't starve his self... ;)

He might be trying to go to what everyone calls "Disney world" lol in pretty sure he enjoys being higher up than where he is At right now. Chameleons go as high as they can go. That's why he wants to get out. He wants to go to that high "tree bush" you got there. He sees it and wants to go up there. That's all

i think buster has an excellent and thoroughly valid point. with that being said, most of my mature males want OUT all the time, crawling towards me like (chameleon) lightning. as opposed to more suspicious younger males, or females in general.

for all the reasons stated, i think it's normal behavior. i sure wish they were social and i could free range them all, but it's just not how they tick. keep doing what you're doing.

we take a sunny d bottle, cut a hole in the side, put mesh in, and it allows us to sort of free range crickets, without actually doing it.

if you go to youtube, or search o nhere, you can find it.

cool he ate today...only like 5 big super worms but he ate:)...he looks fat...lol.....he never looks skinny...any way he moves...oh yeah imma try the cricket death trap as soon as i get a container...
