Hi chameleonsam, welcome to the forums! You have been given excellent advice so far. Unfortunately many people start off with missing or incorrect componenets to their setup, but the important thing is to correct them before problems set in. The links below have a lot of great information on creating the proper environment and keeping your chameleon healthy from the start. Act quickly because once problems set in they can be very difficult (and expensive) to try to correct.

There are still many common misconceptions about chameleon care, and many websites with contradictions or outright misinformation. The resources at Chameleon Forums have been carefully compiled by chameleon keepers all over the world and reflect many years of experience with a wide variety of species. The collaborative nature of this community has allowed chameleon keepers to recognize solutions to common problems, develop better nutrition, and improve the overall care for captive chameleons.

Okay thanks!!! I appreciate all your feed back. I had a friend help me earlier when i was away at work. My name is Sam and i purchased a veiled chameleon 6 week ago. I purchased him from petco, i thought it was the best choice since reading bad feed back from local pet shops websites. I had his enclosure running two day before i brought him home. The temperature never went above 90 nor went below 70. I purchased humility ball but keep a screen over them with a small layer of dirt i purchased from a local pet shop. I also purchase a book name Essentially Care for Chameleon. I always believed i had the correct light.. when i came to find out i had it wrong i had already bought some calcium D3 and believed that if i dust his warms n take him out on several times a week he would be okay. I don't like handling him so take his small tree outside. I also wanted cricketers when i first purchased him, but was told by petco employees that he was too small and might choke on them.. i kind of insisted a little because i seen a cricket box on the food section with a chameleon on the cover and they were tiny, but she insisted otherwise. I figured she knew what she was talking about.. (where were u you guys 6 weeks ago) Its been about a week that he hasn't been his self. His eyes been shut fore about 4days now. I just got home from my nearest petco, i purchased a UBV light, a tropical one. They didn't have crickets at the time. But ill get sum ASAP. I took his night light out. U guys have been very helpful n truly appreciate. I love this lil guy his name is Emilio i call him Milo. I really hope is not to late. I was able to find screen and will start working on his cage as soon as tomorrow. I'll update. Thanks @pssh

He looks okay, so I would just change as much as you can and see if it helps him improve. A visit to a vet might also help get him on track.

Hey u guy. Just arrived home from work. Milo my chameleon had his uvb light on for 12 hours. He hasn't open his eyes i switch to another cage... its my pet puppies cage but its wrapped with screen.. best i can do at the time. Im very concerned because his eyes are still shut, i purchased 20 lil crickets tonight.. but truly don't know what to do now since his eyes are shut and is unable to see his food. I honestly don't know what to do. His last meal might of been around friday. And that scares me.

Sam you must give the UVB light some time! 12 hours isn't going to change your chams health like a snap of the fingers! Are you keeping him well hydrated? He can survive a little while without food but water is most important. You should be misting him 3 times a day for a 2 minutes (warm water) and also provide an all day drip. I'm not sure if you have the plain Calcium yet but that is important too.

ALSO IMPORTANT: your chameleon is very young and will be stressed out if you keep fussing over him; moving his cage etc. The terrarium he's in now is fine - it is more important that you get his health back on track first. Leave him be (except for food and water!) and give the UVB a chance to work. In the meantime - DO YOUR RESEARCH!!!

And good luck! :)

Just want to add make sure you use the UVB 5.0 not the other size.
I also agree that he may survive with no food as long as he drinks. Keep on spraying him.

Also, try not to change the enclosure too much. He may not eat if he's not comfortable with the enclosure yet.

Keep us updated and hope for the best.

There is just one more thing I would like to add, since you already got great advice :) He should be eating way more. I understand he isn't eating right now, but when he does, he can eat that 20 crickets in one day. You wil also have to focus on getting him a lot of calcium without D3.
