hi all just signed up, am currently doing a bit of research as i am going to be buying a veiled cham very soon! am excited already as they look and sound like amazing animals.
is it best to buy younger or older chams? just thinking for a first time?
Hello and welcome to the Forums! This site is a wonderful place to learn about chameleons. It is always great to see someone on here doing their research BEFORE they buy their chameleon. I would recommend a 4 to 7 month old for your first chameleon. Jann
We are happy you joined us. You will find we have some great keepers in the UK, Karen and Miss Lily to name a couple. All of us will try to answer any questions you have but it is always good to know other sort of locals, right?
Thanks Jann, is a really good site, just lots to read up on before i get one, hopefully the set up will arrive on thursday and will be buying on sunday!
am probably going to have lots of nooby questions for you all but will get there eventually! and always best to look up before, no point going to school if you havent done your homework!!!
is it best to have all realy plants or a mix, i am assuming all reall will be best as it will be closer to natural habitat. and how much foleage is good does it need lots of space to roam about or do chams prefer to be hidden away? these are probably answered somewhere on the forums but there are lots of posts to read
have read raising Kitty very useful! think i will be refering to it a lot over the coming weeks!
one last question on this thread
is there anything i should look out for when buying from a pet shop, i know it is a captive bread, but any major warnings that would indicate him being unhealthy?
Make sure all the bones are straight and that it has a strong grip. Also make sure his eyes look normal (meaning that they don't look like sunken in pits). I would also suggest taking it to the vet the day you get it and have a fecal exam done to make sure it doesn't have any worms. Good luck with your future chameleon
