Hello everyone!
I am new to the forum.
Used to own Jacksons and flap necks a long time ago (late 70's!!!). Back then, no one knew anything about these guys and people were putting them in glass terrariums!!
There were no "care sheets", no "how to care for" books, no internet!!!

I actually had to go to Cornell U library to find the only decent book published (at that time) and it was in German!! Had to pay to get it translated!!

Now I see that chameleon care is widely known, tons of great info (some bad too!!) on the internet, and lots of places to buy animals.

I got mine from a pet store in Washington, DC. They had lots of exotic animals, but were clueless about chameleons!!

With my total lack of knowledge, and going by obseration only, I manged
to keep these guys alive for almost 2 years.
One died from an infection which started as parasites in the eyes.

I learned on my own that they do best in all screen cages, even though there was no literature to tell me this.

So, chameleon ownership and care have come a long way since 1977 !!LOL!!

Anyhow, just wanted to say hi in my first post :)
Oh, I also have a leopard geckco and expecting my first veiled chameleon in many years tomorrow and getting everything ready to make him comfortible ;)

Hi, I am in College Park.
well, this was back in 1977, so I doubt the store is still there, but it was near Capital Hill and called "Wee Beasties"!!

There were several "mom and pop" pet stores in DC before PetSmart put them all out of business ( just like the old hardware stores, all gone!!)

oh wow! you arent very far away at all!

glad to see some other people from this area.

cant hurt to see if they are there, but if it was that long ago.. doubtful.

Well unfortunatly I cant join the neighbor hood chat here but glad to see u found us here and I'm glad ur taking another swing at cham ownership :) I wad born in 89 but collect pet books and have some cham books from the 70's that doubke as anole books.. they recommend a 10 gallon fish aquarium for chams... Things have changed..

LOL!! I do remember asking the guys at the pet store how to care for my male Jackson and flapneck, he told me the same thing!! back in those days, all reptiles go into glass terrariums!!

They were totally clueless

There is a 'Maryland Chicken' takeaway in a few cities here in England, and i must say. I'd never go there unless i wanted an irritable bowel. Hope the real Maryland is better!
