heating the viv at night.

im new to chameleons im expecting to get my first veiled next week and having done tonnes of research i know about the heating/lighting in the day however im slightly uneasy about the issue of heating at night as some say its required, some don't etc.

living in the UK where its not exactly warm even in the summer and cant be sure my cham viv will maintain a comfortable temp during the night.

my house is far from cold but i wouldn't call it warm either so im wondering what people do if anything.

the viv is a 2x2x4 foot viv exotic with sliding glass panels at the front. i am however going to be replacing one of those panels with mesh for ventilation.

any thoughts would be appreciated.

hey im not sure what kind of chameleon you have and what the lowest temperatures are, but it is better for chameleons to not have lights at night that way they can relief stress, there fore they need lights off and temperature drops, it is important for them to get a good night sleep. however if it does get cold there use a ceramic bulb which creates heat but no light.

Veileds can tolerate temps down to 55F at night and be perfectly fine. In fact it is beneficial to have a temperature drop at night - it helps their metabolism. Most people's homes don't get that cold so usually nighttime heating isn't an issue. But if you do need to make it warmer at night best to use a ceramic heat bulb or space heater because light at night (even black or red) disturbs their sleep.

definitly no lights at night,

my house is a pretty standard 15 C/60ish F in winter the heating is on all the time so if anything its probably a touch warmer in winter.

i don't think i'll worry but i'll get a ceramic heater just in case of cold spells or something.
