With another week before summer officially starts, we have already had 2 weeks of hot weather.
At 9am yesterday it reached 100f and by 10am it was 109.5 and remained so till around 6pm when it dropped back to around 100f and stayed that way till 3 am, not so much as a hint of a breeze either, and it was cloudy all day.
The airconditioner runs 24/7 already (dreading summer, predicted to reach all time highs).
Absolutely no heating required here, rotating frozen bottles in the turtles tanks and constantly spraying everything else, including Homer (veiled).
Itsa a real battle to prevent things from overheating, even the incubator fan is working overtime.
What other methods do you employ to manage extreme heat conditions?
 
Sounds familiar. I've had way too much experience with this hehe.

I have various room fans running not pointed directly at the chameleon, as well as an in-window air conditioner in the other room (a fan is in the door way to circulate the cold air into the reptile room). Often, freezing some water in a tupperware container and flipping it upside down from the top of the screen helps the temperature stay low, but isn't always good for the chameleon.

I know of some locals who get a large gallon jug of water and wrap it in a towel and place it around the top of the cage.

I keep forgetting you're on the other side of the world. :p
 
Considering investing in a refridgerated/insulated shipping container to convert to a reptile room. Yet to discover if this will be cheaper overall than building one.
Only problem is that container tends to attract interested parties (Herp burgulars).
Definately buying another airconditioner or two, seems to get hotter every year.
Thought about wrapped frozen bottles in enclosures but im iffy about that.
 
It doesn't necessarily have to be IN the enclosure, I've tried this idea a couple times, sometimes it drops the temp a good 3-4 degrees, other times maybe only one degree. But, hey, if it's hot you might as well try what you can.

I wish we could find some cheap working air conditioners off craigslist or even at a yard sale, but then you never know how long they will work.

Could always get a shed and just line it with styrofoam hahaha.
 
I get the same high temps, 110 is way to common here. I use a room A/C for the reg cham room and have one for the quads but their room doesn't change temp much, high or low. I also if it is way hot, turn on a fan, sit it on the floor open the door to the rest of the house and blow out the hot air to give the A/C a boost. Hubby ever see's that and I may be dead.
 
Yeah but thats what I meant by, that it might be cheaper, by the time I buy Insulation and muck with it, it might cost alot more.
A freind has been very clever, his herp shed is adjacent to his house. He realised the air temp under the house was much cooler, so he ran industrial airconditioning tube (below)
from under the house, into the shed, drawn in by a fan. Made a noticble difference to the ambient temp.
