I am currently in the process on turning my garage into a cham room. Now, the chams are in the house but the inside stays a little too warm for my liking, usually 77-78 degrees ambient. I am moving them into a fully enclosed garage, that I have been renovating just for them. I know panther chameleons can stand temperature drops into the 50's and I want to make sure the temp will not drop too low for them. I live in southern california so it never gets that cold but it can drop into the low 30's at night a couple times a year. I have been monitoring the temperatures inside the garage and outside to see what the differences were. It has gotten into the mid 40's at night outside, while the temps inside seem to get no lower that 63 degrees. On the coldest nights of the year, it seems possible that it could get close to 50 degrees inside the garage. I love my chams so much and want them to be warm enough. would it be wise to use ceramic heaters for them on those chilly nights or will a space heater work that just heats up the whole area? Anybody have experience with a garge room? If it will be too cold I will have to insulate the walls to keep the heat in, I just like it now because the ambient temperature stays right at 70, which is perfect.
