Current Problem -did a weekly cate cleaning and health check and when i was placing the veiled back in his enclosure I heard a clicking noise it was brief but heard it for about 60 seconds while looking at him which i had never heard, he does not like to be handled and hisses and bites whenever he is handled but i had never heard that noise before and imediately thought URI but i dont have enough money for a vet visit and dont know of any exotic vets in the area, so i was trying to get some feedback of members to see if this has happened to anyone else? I checked on him later this evening 30 minutes before his lights turn out i tried to look at him again but he was snapping and hissing so much i didnt want to stress him, but i sat and listened and did not hear anymore clicking,i have not seen any gapping or saliva around at the mouth, eyes look good, hydrated alert and active. That noise just has me paranoid.

Chameleons are known to make "clicks" and vibration "hums" when they feel threatened or excited, so its possible this is just the case. But for 30 seconds? mine has done it for like.... 7 seconds tops, but never 30.....

perhaps someone will chime in here with more information than I do.

Husbandry looks fine, but 82 is a tad low for veiled basing, 85F is your sweet spot for digestion & metabolism & immune system well being. Even though you live in a humid place, still best to have a meter :) veileds don't like having that much humiditiy (40%-50% max ide say) so if your humidity is constantly above that... you may be setting him up for URI - which would sound similar to a wheeze or perhaps a "gargle" instead of clicking.

Hope everything goes well :)

thanks for the replies ive raised temps to the maximum the dimmer will allow the basking light to go is which about 84, 7 inches below the basking area. its holding steady so far and i checked him once again and he is showing no signs of distress, and is not making any noise or strained breathing.
