I've been trying to feed my cham waxworms from my hand but he won't eat any. Tips?

I actually just let one lose on his vine and it fell off, and then he went after it and ate it!

i don';t think thats good, seeing how the person wants the cham to eat off his/her hand.

try getting your hand like five inches from the cham, sometimes the worm needs to be moving very very quickly.. how are you hand feeding? with fingers or palm? palm is easier as they can grasp it however they please, fingers could appear as taunting the cham.

my cham "hates" me but she'll eat from my hand all the time.
it's a trust thing. sometimes you need to go step-by-step

Why is it important? IMHO its better that they NOT eat from our hands, frankly.

But could the "problem" be that you are not still enough? or seen as a predator (how comfortable is the chameleon around you generally?) try being lower down and very very still, open palm with the waxworm (a terrible feeder choice by the way - all fat) in the centre of your palm

honestly when my cham is pissed off at me for whatever reason, she could have her teeth sunk into my palm or something, a waxworm would settle the dispute. i can't believe that the OP is having a hard time...

Your obviously seen as scary or threatening like a predator. If you handle the Cham slot I would say that it Is stressing out, you have built the trust relationship up too fast, although I agree with the making them find and hunt it's always better when an animal can use it's natural instincts, it serves as a mental plus the Cham feels like it's more dominant. Rather then the feeling of surrender that it goes through when getting scraps from your hand. But as it your Cham, train it how you want. Just try to make it happy, as for waxworks, yes they are fatty but like most animals a balanced diet makes them healthy, so every few days it's good, just not all the time. Contests on getting it to eat.

hmmm....I'm just so excited mine eat when I'm out of the room not looking at them...

Ya know, if you have the chameleon that will be your bud and eat out of your hands, that's great, but if not, well, they are utterly wonderful anyway. Don't put that pressure on the relationship.

If I were to get mealworms or silkworms, how often should I feed it to him?

Try hand feeding crickets. Grab them gently by the butt. Mine will not eat worms from my hand either but he will eat crickets 50% of the time I try to hand feed. Make sure not to move fast when you approach him.

Mealworms are very high in chinton which can cause impaction so very rarely as treats... Mine get some once a month... Silkies are good anytime but still not a stable feeder but they really can be fed often
