He is home!

Today, I picked up my male ambajole Cham on schedule and brought him in to his new "home". He is ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL to say the least...oranges, reds, pearl stripe down his side broken with blues ranging from deep sky blue to tourquoise.

He climbed into his abode and spent about 10 minutes climbing all over the upper cage wire and then slowly found his way to the basking spot, like it had always been his favorite spot!

After just 10 minutes, he gulped a superworm, then another one, then 2 crickets...a sight to behold, especially being so new in his cage.

The MistKing came on @ 3:30...right on schedule...and he immediately began drinking from the leaves...another sight to behold.

I was expecting STRESS (not mine, but from him), but he seemed to adjust in a matter of < 30 minutes!

We went to supper and came home ~ 9 PM and my wife loudly yelled...HE's GONE...she couldn't find him anywhere, even with all the cage lights on.

After getting a flashlight, I finally found him completely buried in the foliage about 18" off the bottom, snuggled with his tail all curled up, eyes closed and sound asleep!

Laughingly, I told her...he's a master of camoflauge...he's a CHAMELEON! We both had a laugh!

After wondering if he was OK, we realized that this was his normal sleep time anyway, since the pet shop "closed" about this time and the lights went out as well there. Apparently, he was RIGHT ON SCHEDULE!

What a day!

Eating, drinking and sleeping...all that is left to do now is wait for the poop on the cage bottom!

I'll take some photos and share with everyone tomorrow!

Last week when we bought him, we were told he was 8 months old. Today, another employee said only 6 months. If he is really only 6 months old, I can't WAIT to see the colors in the next few months!

His length (nose to vent) is about 8 inches.

This is my first CHAM. I've had captive snakes and lizards and kept saltwatere fish for years.

I've done so much homework on this guy, I feel like my brain is overloaded.

The reward was his immediate "comfort level" after climbing inside his cage!

Well congrats again! Enjoy the journey and I don't want another word out of you if it doesn't have a pic attached!!! :D You big tease!!!

Hi Gary. So glad you are happy with your new chameleon. They are something to behold like you said. Amazing to watch!. When I got my first one my daughter and I pulled up chairs and sat from a distance and just stared at him!!!! I never get tired of watching them! Anyways, two things I wanted to say...first, you NEVER come on the forum bragging about how beautiful your chameleon is without showing us a picture!!!!haha! I kept scrolling down waiting to see and then nothing!! lol:eek: The other thing is you might want to turn your lights out a little earlier. I don't know what time you have them going out, but I usually try and have them go off when it is dark outside. Just trying to simulate sun up sun down, especially if you have your cage near a window. welcome to chameleon ownership!!!!

A big congratulations Gary. Chameleons are such amazing creatures. I can't wait to see pictures and what your little man grow up here on the forums.

OK...my appologies for no pics yet. Today has been MORE trips to get another power supply (much larger) to accomodate the MistKing digital timer and one for the combo light. I will have to play electrician soon, since the ZooMed combo light only has 1 cord that controls all 3 lights. I want to separate the red "night" light on a separate timer...in time...

Lastly, as a newbie here, any hints on how to upload photos in the forum? Heck...it CAN'T be more difficult that what I've been through prepping for my CHAM !

I have a NIKON Digital SLR that I'll start shooting pics with, dump the photos onto a memory card, then upload the photos to my laptop. Once there I'm hoping it is cut/paste into the forum. That sounds simple...and hope it is!

PS: Morning/day 2: "Rango" ate 4 crickets this AM chomp/chomp, (more to come later); and was lapping water like he had "dust" in his mouth...lol. He is really adapting quickly to his new home...and I have POOP in the cage floor...that end also works pretty good too!

Since I work from hme full time, I'll NEVER get any work done now... as I am mezmerized by this guy!
