He ate a tissue!

Pop-Tart has been dehydrated which I posted about yesterday. Today I was cleaning out his feeding bowl. I put water in it and was using tissue to scrub and soak up the water. I turned my back for a second to grab another tissue and when I turned back he had the wet tissue in his mouth. I pulled as much as I could from his mouth, but he still managed to swallow some. I finished cleaning his bowl and filled it with a little bit of water. I normally don't put water in it but he's thirsty.

I'm glad he's willing to drink but now I'm freaking out that he might be hurt. I lost my job 2 weeks ago and have no income. I can't take him to the vet if something happens. I need advice. Please.

My suggestion for u is feed him some silkworm n watch for his poops for the next few days, hopefully he can poop all the tissue right out.

Find another job, pronto. Chameleons are expensive ;)

As for the tissue... make sure he stays well hydrated. MAKE SURE HE STAYS WELL HYDRATED. I say that twice because you need him to be, because it will help him pass what little bit of tissue he consumed through his body.

Give him a nice long shower for hydration and a nice big juicy horned worm to help him pass it :)
It happened to my big veiled once. I had paper towel lining the bottom of the enclosure and he gradded a feeder with his tongue from the ground - his sticky tongue grabbed it with the feeder and I tried to pull it out but he got the corner. I gave him a big horn worm and there were no ill effects.

There are no horn worms or silk worms in my area. I heavily misted and gave him a shallow dish of water. I will try the bath.

I've been job hunting, but I have a no compete contract that's making it very difficult. Chameleons are exspensive that's for sure.

I find some people to be a bit harsh on these forums but I do beleive they just love Chams and want the best for them. :) You can order Hornworms of Amazon.com. I've done it a few times with no problems but I only buy from 5 star sellers! I have tried other bugs but haven't been impressed with the quality.

My Veiled Chameleon was very ill a year ago. He became dehydrated some and refused to drink. So, I put warm (not hot) water in a syringe with NO needle and dropped the water on his lips. He started to lick it off after I did it a few times. I use a spray bottle with hot water (it's warm when you spray it) to gently spray my Cham several times a day. I also spray the top of his cage from the outside down (it's screened) which makes droplets of water hang down. Looks like a lot of little crystals and he'll drink them. Hope this helps!

This is why I don't think it is a good idea to use paper towels in the bottom. This happened to someone else also on here.

If your chameleon does go down hill and you need to go to vet, explain your situation to your vet and see if you can work out a payment plan. Even borrow the money from someone if you can. You owe it to you chameleon to care for him. I know we all run into situations in our life when our finances are not the best. I hope he will be ok.

Alphakenc say...absolutely positively alphakenc-ly no paper towels on the bottom jus like when all of us were born...nothing...all naked.
There are 2 choices....1) naked bottom cage with a healthy"alive" cham all day everyday!
2) decorate the bottom cage with a stuffed chamy animal in the cage and play Barbie n Ken all day!! I will leave that decision for you guys n gals to decide!!!

And jus for all you folks to know,I did that paper towel thing long long ago,and I thought that will saving me time to catch the poop drop like a diapers on the babies bum,and end up with all the misting n pooping, that paper towels became a bacterial breeding ground,by observing my chams behavior,I change that immediately before anything happen, and guess what if this will happen to me ,surely will happen to anybody.
