Having a nightmere with temps!

Hi all.....i posted a thread a few days ago entitling *dark colours after laying* well after reading up some more it think it could point to Trixxi being too cold....so i have been experimenting with different basking lights....usual light i have used from the start is a 100 watt household bulb and the temps using this is as follows:lowest point in viv is 68,middle 72-73 and basking at 77-80...i changed the bulb to a 60 watt spot and the basking spot went up to 95+ (far to hot for my girl!) but the bottom and middle temps in the viv were perfect when using this bulb!so....i changed to a 40 watt spot and the basking spot got up to 88-89 but again the bottom and middle temps remained too low!can't seem to win! by the way Trixxi is in a glass viv,any help greatly appreached

You could you try experimenting with the 60W bulb by moving it higher above the cage. This may just reduce the basking spot to an acceptable temp. Try experimenting with different wattages at different heights until you find the right combination.

I've just got several readings ranging between 77F at the bottom to the low 90's at the top! I'm so glad you asked as i haven't checked them for a while. That may explain why she keeps sitting near the bottom on her plant pot! Just going to rearrange things for her. Thanks Ronnie!

Use a second fixture with a screw in radiant ceramic heater. Then play with the bulb wattages to figure out what one gives you the proper basking heat.
