Has anyone tried breeding Jacksons w/Panthers?

From what I have learned you are not supposed to mix breeds like that.

I think you are confusing the breeding of different "locales " of the panther chameleon....(noseybr, ambilobe, sambava, ambanja, etc.) All are the same species...you can criss breed and get. Crosses but usually looked down upon....

While mixing different species of chameleons is not possible....wont work....sorry .....nada...game over.....the eggs wont hatch IF you get that far....

Isnt there a species that can cross breed with veileds?? Think I remember Chris and a few others talking about it.....the cross was once thought to be its own species until it was found out that it was a cross.....cant remember what the other species was though......but I think they are on the border with Yemen and Saudi Arabia.......

It's like foxes and wolves can't breed. Despite being "dogs" they are not close enough genetically. Or, if you prefer, like Humans and Apes. It's not that they can't go through the motions, it's that they cannot make a match. Despite what Star Trek told us, it's not really possible to "cross" individuals that are very different.

I think because all domestic dogs can interbreed we forget that domestic dogs are, despite their different appearances, the same species.

Many different species of animals can cross breed.......but I believe they have to be in the same genus to make it work......doesnt work for alot, but there definitly(Sp?) is alot of cross breeding in the animal world.....and alot of these crosses arent fertile

I have noticed some confusion from people about what will and what won't interbreed........it must be because of the obsession with various panther crosses (they are all panthers, from genus Furcifer though).
Veileds are from genus Chamaeleo, while Jacksons are in genus Trioceros. They are more different genetically than any kind of domestic dog is to each other. Sub-species will usually interbreed, or they would just be known as 'species', lol. Taxonomy can be a bit vague at the edges, eh?
On the occasions when different species can interbreed (like horses and donkeys making mules, or ligers and stuff) then the offspring will be sterile anyway.

They have been thought to hybridize with Chamaeleo arabicus, the Arabian chamleon. If I remember right, it was thought to be a subspecies of Veiled and it was called Chamaeleo calyptratus calcarifer.

If Liger is a lion Tiger cross, then yes, those exist. There are Ligers and Tions.

Apparently they are close enough in the genomic sense to cross breed.

The difference in the names relates to "who's the Dad"...I don't remember which way it works.

If i'm not mistaken, they cannot breed by themselves. Their has to be alteration and help from humans in a lab. their is a fish called a tiger muskie in utah (maybe other states) that is a cross between a muskellunge and a pike. They look VERY similar, however they cannot breed. So the Tiger Muskie high bred has to be produced in a fishery and helped out by humans.

Just wanted to post... Yes the tiger Muskie <albeit rare> is also found in other states such as ny! Yay tiger Muskies.

On a side note, each time I tried to type Muskie, the phone wanted to say Muslim. Proof of religious tigers?
