Ive been referring to this forum for about a solid 2 months and have now just decided to make an account. I picked up Harvey just this past Sunday from a man on craigslist that was feeding him 7 crickets a day! haha hes a big boy :D heres a few pictures, still letting him get used to everything before i try offering my hand to him.

Welcome new member. Harvey's pictures are not showing up. At least not for me and I'd love to see him. :)
 
No not see he pictures either .... Congrats on your new boy. Try to repost pictures, woulda love to see them.
 
I can see Harvey now and she is beautiful and looks like she is ready to lay eggs. You need to put in a laying bin for her ASAP so she will not become egg bound.

He looks like a SHE. I agree that you need to get a laying box in there real quick. That is not a fat male, but a gravid female!.

She is a beautiful girl though.
 
HOLY **** :( excuse my language but there is no way in hell i am ready to deal with a pregnant female, i saw a horrifying picture of what happens if they do not lay their eggs and i dont know what i would do if that were to happen. please someone talk me through this.... i havent even had (he/she) a week. the owner before me said it was a boy, what should i do :eek::(

First things first.....get a laying bin in the enclosure now.

You will love a female. All the ones I have had were super sweet.

If the previous owner thought she was male than it was a good thing she came to you when she did.

Congrats, she is gorgeous.
 
Lots of members have been successful with females laying eggs just from advice from the forums! It will take some preparation and then likely some privacy:). Keep asking questions and doing the research and she will be fine. I don't like Craig's list for anything, but it sure isn't a good source of chameleon info. Glad you found the forums!

not the best picture but since this morning i have put sheets on all sides of the cage and put a laying bin at the bottom filled with soil. my problem now is hoping she will see the bin. i have not earned her trust yet, as i tried offering my hand she hissed at me and proceeded to move to another branch. any advice at this point? hopefully she will come around. I put the end of her favorite vine (the one she has been sleeping on) into the bin. thank you to all who have left compliments & advice, it really means a lot.

I'm no expert, but I would expect that with some privacy she will use the lay box in time. I would just try to give her some room and do your best to ignore her for a while. You will be able to tell if she uses the lay box. It takes some time for her to chose a spot, lay eggs, and bury them again. Nice work jumping to action!! She is lucky to have you.
 
Be patient! She is in a new home and may not be "ready" just because she looks like she is ready ;). Hope she settles in quickly and does her thing. Looking forward to any news.
