Hanging upside down?

Hi, i'm alittle concerned, my female nosy be has been hanging upside down during the day. Im not talking on all fours i mean like hanging like a bat with he hind legs and tail wrapped around a branch and her front legs just hanging. She got out the of the position to eat, i havent noticed her go back yet, but i just want to make sure. She is eating normally, he eyes arent closed or sunken. Shes being supplemented correctly. She has a 5.0 uv light. Just want to make sure

my Lily does that every once in a while. Never really thought about it figured she was doing her thing:rolleyes:

now curious to what people say.

Its completely normal. Most chameleons do that when they are young. If it has you scared, you can add more branches and vines and she will probably stop.

I wouldnt be worried.
Ive seen my chams wrap their tails around branches, hang onto another branch with their front feet, and leave their back feet hanging.
THey do some very strange things, its nothing to worry about.

Our veiled did this for a couple of weeks before we realised she was gravid and now she has become eggbound. Get a laying bin in their asap.

Then you probably didnt know what gravid colors look like. My female is as peachy as ever, and shes only 5 monthes old

Chams do not like change very much. I would put the bin in now even if not needed. This way it is part of her home, will have checked it out, or at least gotten closer to it before she actually needs it. Mine is in the all the time, I have a vine that leads into it so she can get in and out.

I saw her going around the rim and in it before she ever showed gravid colors and when it was time she just went down to it and did what was needed to be done

I would agree with putting the bin in now. We've had stories of 5 months old chameleons bearing eggs. I also agree that hanging upside down is probably not something to be worried about. They seem to have periods when they enjoy stunts and I'm quite sure they take delight in freaking us out.

My girl Veiled hung by just her tail and picked crickets off the floor. That was ace, didn't worry me at all, she knew what she was doing lol
Also, it's just always better to have a laying bin just in case.....

As long as you have a place she can get to (so, there's access with a vine or branch) that has a few inches of sand so she can show you when she's thinking about digging, that's probably acceptable. You do need to have a separate laying bin (can be a trashcan) ready to move her too when she indicates she's ready. Tomorrow I'll find you jann's blog entry on laying bins.
