ive seen on previous posts people hanging plants etc... do the chameleons ever climb the rope up to the top of the screen? i was just worried it would cause problems if he climbed the rop and was closer then 8in from the uvb

Mine climb to the top all time, both with and without a rope to get them there. I have a female panther that can be to the top of her cage and hanging from the top before you get her cage door all the way open. She will take your hand off if you get close.

wow ok soo... so no bodys had problems with them getting to close and getting burned? also if i was worried about it getting burned could i allow it to go to the top and then just somehoe raise the uvb 8 inches from the top of the cage?

from my understanding, UVB bulbs only penetrate to about 12 inches...i would keep that on top of the cage to make sure your cham is getting proper lighting, he wont get burned from the UV bulb, rather the basking bulb...so if anything, you can raise your clamp lamp up a few inches...just make sure you maintain proper temps at your basking spot

It is not usually the uvb they get burned by, it is the heat bulb. Just make sure that one doesn't touch the cage and you should be good to go.

If your worried about burns, yes it can and has happened... I can attest... Their heat sensors are on their back so therefore they wont be aware of the burn until it gets pretty bad.. So if your worried about it theres two things you can do... Make sure his/her cage is elevated enough to where they wont feel it necessary to go all the way to get away from stress (fixed it for me) or two, don't put the light on the top of the cage... Move to a 100 watt bulb and move the light up about 12 inches from the highest basking perch
