Hanging direcly under the lights?

I just got some new lights for Sheldon, 2 linear lights. I used bulbs before with his old cage and now when I got a bigger one (24x24x48) I need some better lights. I'm using one Repto Glo 10.0 and one sun-Glo 4200k. My really question is, he seems to be hanging in the seling direcly under the lights instead of using a branch or something (that is direcly under him), is this a problem or is it ok?:)

T8's shouldnt get hot enough to burn him unless its a really funky hood. And it sounds like there is screen between the cham and light, so you will be fine even if the fixture is laying on the screen. Dont worry about radiation with a screen if that is what you are getting at. A bad scenario would be if the cham could hang directly under a T5 HO (they get too hot to touch) even with a screen.

I would recommend if you are buying bulbs to get a ultrasun for a cheap 2nd light vs rebuying a sun-Glo 4200k. the ultrasun is a 6 phosphor 6500k so it mimics outdoor light better vs your warm 4200k that only has 3 phosphors(more color peaks/valleys).

Okay thank you :) sorry for the sloppy english, it was written by my phone. I will get a 6500k next time. The hood/fixture is brand new so it's not "funky" :D. Thanks for the all the information, didn't know there's a such big different between T8's and T5's :)

I agree with nightanole on bulb size and getting a 6500k that'll help ur plants grown tramendously.. but I'm not sure what kind of Cham sheldon is. But 10.0 is alot. 5.0 would be preferred for most species and senarios.

10.0 is fine. 5.0 actually gives out very little uv and 10.0 still not loads. I think the T5 bulbs are the best. Arcadia t5 bulbs dont get that hot really. Hotter then the T8's but not boiling.

My thoughts exactly. The 10.0 allows a bigger sweet spot, where a 5.0 you only have a 6" sweet spot.

As For T5 HO heat, i cant hold one in my hand, but i can a T8. Im not sure if a T5 HO could melt nylon screen, but it might heat up aluminum screen enough to burn little feets over and extended time.

I can agree with this but the OP has to realize that not only can he get a good amount of UVB exposure farther but a great deal of it in the basking spot. So the levels of gained UVB exposure are greater so the normal calcium with D3 Needs to be lessened to compensate. The normal 2 doses a month will be to much IMO.
NOW IF ur using a flexarium with the plastic mesh or nylon that blocks a lot of UVB normal schedual for d3 and 10.0 would be okay. but a nice fine aluminum screen like most cages doesn't fikter as much and that's where I think the adjustment needs to be made.

I'm using a zoo med repti breeze. You think I should lessened the two times a month of D3 to one?

Nah 2 times a month is fine. What is your d3 dosage? Some d3 calcuim powders can have 10x the d3 as others. I do mine alittle diff. I switch to sticky tongue minerall indoor in the winter for all dusting. It has a very low dose of d3 so it can be used every feeding. I go back to the 2x a month during the summer when he gets 8 hours of out door time a week.

I agree with this ^^
A panther especially can handle the additional UVB from the 10.0. They also can have higher baskig spots than most and a tick over veileds recommend at 89-91. Panthers are comfortable up to around 95 degrees give or take.
