ive had my panther for two weeks now. he was 3 onths old wen i got him. hes very small and likes to hide wen im around. hes eating 5 or 6 crickets a day. wen could i attempt to handle him?
Hmmmm, 5-6 crickets per day seems a little low. What size are these crix? He should be eating upwards of 10-15 at this stage, as he is growing rapidly. Can you please post a pic of him? He should be adjusted to his home by now and you can start your short interactions with him.
I agree that there are other issues (babies should be given loads and loads of food! regardless of species, they just need it to grow) I want to address your question.
You can be handling him now. I would suggest a very passive, patient approach. Try holding a cricket out for him to take. Once that is working, go "two hands" and put a finger down low near his feet with one hand and hold a cricket out a few inches in front of him...that should encourage him to get on your finger....
How big are the cricket? I'm wondering if our internal math is based on the idea of very small crickets...if I had a chameleon that age I would be feeding tiny crickets so would expect my chameleon to be eating 10 or so a day.
