Handling problems

I have had my veiled cham for about 4 months now, and I never really handled him, in fear of hurting or stressing him to much. But now later today I have to get him into a wide air container and drive 2miles per hour to transport him to a friends for care over the weekend well I am on vacation. I can't pick him up without him running at full speed away than hiding from my hand. But I need to pick him up, if I cannot my father will, and his idea of doing so is to reach in and grip him, than put him into a box forcefully. Please help!

Try putting a stick in there and see if he'll climb on it. If he does, slowly put him near the box and gently put him in it.

If that doesn't work you might just have to grab him and put him in the box. It can be done with not too much stress. Just make sure you do it calm and slow.

Alright I will attempt to move him with a stick, than if it comes to it, I will slowly grab him, I just hope that he will be alright.

The blue rubber palmed gloves (made by Atlas and other co.) will protect from bites, if needed. They are sold at 7-11s and any landscaping department in Walmart, Lowes, or Home Depot. Good luck.

When I move my wild caughts, I try not to grab them around the body. I'll try to scoop them up from underneath. I make a dark cage with my hands so they are trapped in my hands but are not grabbed around the body or even the tail. If I have a really spooky one, I might hold it by the base of the tail to prevent it from launching itself into space to try to escape.

I'm a bit leery of the stick method simply because I fear the chameleon will bail and get hurt. If I do use a stick, I am really careful to have something underneath for a safe landing if they bail.

Whatever you do, don't pull back if the chameleon bites you. You can do damage their teeth.

I let my males stand on the palm of my hand. They might flex a little, but will calm down fairly quickly (usually). Don't grab them by their backs. They will assume you are carrying them off to be eaten.
