Handling for the first time advice!

I recently received my first chameleon from the "Cowboy" bloodline from Chameleon Paradise. He is my first reptile, after leaving the Discus fish scene. Toby, (his name) is 4 month old, and doing great. Outside of his enclosure, i have a few plants that i have researched and bought that i had found to be safe for chameleons to chill in during the day. I've had him for almost a week now, and when i gently go in to offer my hand under him like a branch, he hurries to another side of the enclosure. Out of fear of stressing him out too much, i haven't attempted to hold him since. Im looking for any advice to helping get my little buddy out so he can enjoy his new playground.

On my experience. Every other day take him out. hand under belly ladder hand over hand. But you also have to remember sometime you get one that just does not want to be touched no matter how much you try. Just keep at it I'm sure you'll get more advice from more people that can help. I have one that I can't even go near the tank without him wanting to tear my hand off

I just got a male from Bruce and Cowboy as well! And just received my Kubo last week too. Like you said, I haven't been handling too much, but I have been hand feeding, and I'll take a brand he likes to walk on out and let him walk over my hand while he's on that.

Keep me updated on how your guy is doing! I'd love to see pictures of him in a few months since it looks like we have brothers from the same clutch .

I just got a male from Bruce and Cowboy as well! And just received my Kubo last week too. Like you said, I haven't been handling too much, but I have been hand feeding, and I'll take a brand he likes to walk on out and let him walk over my hand while he's on that.

Keep me updated on how your guy is doing! I'd love to see pictures of him in a few months since it looks like we have brothers from the same clutch .

I think i'm going to give that a shot starting tomorrow! Also, from your profile photo, they look extremely similar! Tomorrow i will take a nice pic and post it! Thanks for the advice!

Wow Kubo has his fathers colors coming in already! Toby isn't really showing any color that looks very similar to Cowboy yet, but i hope that starts to come in.

I've been doing two things:

1. Actually holding the cricket with my fingers (sometimes too tight so Kubo can't actually get it) or just having it on my hand.
2. Putting a few crickets in a small tub and holding it in front of him. After a few days he seems to really like this, he's even come running for it a few times.

I've been very impressed by his appetite so far, Bruce seems to raise amazing babies!

try with hornworms or something slow in your hand. My little kids do it all the time and my wife. And about 75% of them eat out of the hand. And it eventually will be a bond

You could also get one that would rather eat your hand then the feeder...

My guy was just the same as how u describe yours i started just taking the lid off the cricket keeper and holding it where he could see the Crickets from across the cage and he would eventually start slowly coming towards me and he would snatch one out of the cricket keeper but he would only eat one like that at first now whenever I come to his cage holding the cricket keeper he comes as fast as he can but I now hold the cricket by one of its back legs and he will take it I also used a stick at first to get him out

Mine runs too. 4 months old now. I hand feed her a super worm every other day and got it to where she will walk out onto my left hand to get the worm in my right hand. But then instantly wants to run after. And now when I put my hand open in front of the cage she thinks it's a worm and just shoots her tongue at me lol but still doesn't like being held
