I've had my veiled for a couple of months now and he's just coming up to 5 months old. He's eating well, is active, well hydrated and seams to love it in his viv. He's quite a gentle soul and rarely puffs up or gapes at me even with my hand in the viv. I've only seen him go totally dark twice and neither time was my fault, he ate a roach that was a bit too big and got cross with it lol.
However, he is very nervous, he has no problem hand feeding from me but when I put his feeding dish in he sways a bit and kind of ducks behind his basking branch. When he comes to the front of the viv I can put my hand really close to him and he'll be fine, but when I go just that little bit further he gets nervous and retreats to the back of his viv to hide in his pothos. Now i'm really not interested in getting him out loads, if at all, he gives me plenty of laughs and joy just watching him be him. I will have to get him out eventually so I can give him a health check so how do I do this? Is it just a case of carrying on offering my hand to him until he gets up the courage to step on? or is there another way I can do it without making him too nervous? thanks.
