Anyone going to the Northern Berks Reptile Show this weekend Hamburg, PA? I was wondering if there are normally any Chameleon breeders who attend this show?
its really a great show theres other chameleon breeders but i forget the names! I know chameleonsbydesign so thats why i remember But there is stuff you may have never seen!
The show isn't bad but there are a ton of snake breeders there. Your looking at maybe 3-4 chameleon breeders/sellers and the rest are snakes or geckos for the most part.
Well to be quite honest, my number #1 reason in going is to stock up on frozen rats for my daughter's ball pythons. Since I'm going, I just to see if I can get my hands on some other chameleon species that aren't panthers, Veileds, or Jacksons. I could use some pin head crickets and fruit flies too.
There were chameleon breeders when I used to got but that was many, many years ago when I was doing venomous which I since gave up due to getting married and having a kid. Back in those days that's what Hamburg was known for, lot's a deadly snakes, legally sold. Great state PA, loved it!
Funny, I was talking to one person recently who told me the venomous selection really went downhill and was nothing like it was ten years ago, last time I was there was 2002. Then a second person told me more recently some new venomous law has come into effect where now you have to have 1000 hours on each family and pay $100 each a year on each family you keep. Brutal, glad I don't do venomous anymore.
I also remember a time when I could buy a dozen goldfish for $1, recently I picked up six for $1 for my garden pond, and I'm really not that old, prices are going up, up, and up everywhere you look in the hobby. It's becoming expensive to do this. The only thing I've seen actually come down in value are corn & rat snakes.
