grumpy chameleon!

my veiled chameleon is the grumpiest I've ever seen him today! Got him out yesterday, he explored at bit & was fine.

Today, I took him out to clean the cage-he wasn't exactly thrilled but came along willingly enough.

Then this afternoon, I figured he'd like a little explore- I was wrong! He swelled, hissed and gave me a nice view down his throat. Its the first time I've feared for my fingers! I was quite impressed by the spots and stripes he produced though. I quickly decided to respect his wish to stay put lol

Now I'm wondering if this is an age thing, from bits & pieces I've read here it seems they get grumpier as they grow, and this certainly seems to have happened over the past week or so. He's now 4 months. Also, I've been cooking with garlic and onion, and although I washed my hands & can't smell it on my hands, could he? I wouldn't be surprised if garlic offended him. If that's the case that might explain why Nibbler the hamster was particularly keen to chew on me too!

Of course I understand he could just be having an angry day, or grow up to be a moody little sod. I'm just intrigued. I know that when my uni friends went to Spain on fieldwork & held a wild chameleon, he took a disliking to a girl wearing coconut sun lotion.

I've been having the same kind of issues with my 5month old veiled for a couple weeks now, seeing this post suggests to me that it's an age thing , damned teenagers :p

I hope you find the answers you seek .. So I can steal them ;)

My male veiled is almost 6 months. And at 4 months when I put him in his big boy cage he's been a bitter ass ever since lol.. its age, he likes his free range which I move next to his cage, but never stays to long. I take the don't touch me attitude as appreciation of his nice home he likes.. he also hates going outside. He fires up big time! so I open his window with no screen lol.. its best not to hold em unless necfessary anyways.. they just arnt cuddly creatures!

Ah well, if he's happy being grumpy then that's ok, I'll cuddle the cat instead lol.

I guess it's also cos he's so small and I'm so big. Yesterday he was scared of my camera, he often gets scared when I put food in & is also often scared of the food itself!
