Grubs? (Maybe a caterpillar)

I was wondering if I could possibly feed this guy (maybe even find another and then breed the beetles).

What I'm concerned about is that normally grubs are white and red, this one is greenish brown.

And the fact that I don't know if they are bad/good for him.

Whatever you do, try to get a definitive ID on the species before you feed it to him. I personally would just try to turn it into the beetle first and maybe try to get more to breed like you said.

Yeah I looked up fruit beetle and it doesn't really look like them.

I'm fairly sure caterpillars are ok to feed though, I haven't found much info though. :(

They arent too common so hopefully I can catch a female/male one .. if I can manage to ID and sex this little dude.

I was hoping someone could ID the bug in this thread honestly.

Many caterpillars are toxic, so it would not to be wise to assume. However, these are often brightly colored whereas yours is camouflaged, so that may be a good sign.

Yeah I am working on the ID and maybe I could find the nutritional value ect and see if he is worth it

That is a caterpillar. If you post some photos on bugguide.net in the ID section, they may be able to help you. Try and post quality photos that show the top, sides, belly, and the head if you can. Caterpillars (depending on the species) can be a little hard to ID correctly.

It depends on the species, what the caterpillars eat, and how they store/excrete any toxins that may be in their host plants that will decide if it can be fed off. What kind of plant did you find it on?

I don't know what plant I found it on, I just found it while hoeing in the backyard. Hoeing out some weeds you know.

It's a cutworm and I've made a new thread btw.
