Ground up enclosure

#23
I grabbed what was readily available at my local hardware store instead of waiting to ship the black spray foam. I started with silicone and coconut fiber tonight and quickly realized that is not the way to do it for a large enclosure that will need many layers to block the yellow and will be switching to other methods of adhesion. At the moment I am almost done sealing the door and glueing the loose ends of the screen to the wood. Those will all get trimmed and the door to the enclosure will be installed this weekend. Then I will move on to finishing the base while there is a functional enclosure on top. But the wife has a birthday this weekend so this may be a bit hopeful lol....

Got a few things done this weekend. Still definitely a work in progress but I am pretty much done with the frame of the enclosure besides cleaning up a lot of stuff and continuing to layer the background. I installed the light fixture and picked up a few plants this weekend. Not sure if they are safe for chameleons but they are just in there under the grow light for now and I will definitely figure out what plants are safe or not before adding any. I also got a few goodies for her enclosure as well as mounted the door and acrylic! The acrylic really allows you to see the enclosure well, I love it as opposed to staring through the mesh. My wife is dying to clean our basement from the mess I’ve created down here lol

Careful with the bamboo. Not sure if it is toxic but they do not root well and can fall if not secured well. I have Draceana and two types of pothos for mine The pothos is his favorite and he bites out little triangles and diamonds from the leaves lol. Both of these are really easy to propagate as well.

Yeah we have 2 Pothos right now. I just picked up the bamboo randomly because they were cheap. Margee definitely eats plenty of Pothos leaves in her current enclosure

Finally have a livable enclosure for her. Still a little rough around the edges but I moved her in last night and she seems to really enjoy it. I will be taking a little break from out to wrap my head on exactly how I want to lay out the base and how I’m going to do the permanent floor for the enclosure. But here is how it sits right now.

I would rethink the use of that reptile hammock if I were you! They are not made for chameleons. Chams' nails can get stuck in them and ripped out. They are made for belly-dragging lizards, definitely not chameleon. Alsio, lucky bamboo is toxic and since veileds are plant-eaters, I would make sure to exclude that from the final product

You’ve got to be kidding me about the hammock? Their enclosures are made ENTIRELY of steel or aluminum mesh sometimes, I don’t see how that makes any sense.

The piece of lucky bamboo has one leaf on it and has been with her since the beginning, she has never touched it. I took the second piece out and put it with the mantis.
