My female veiled is definitely gravid (infertile clutch). I just walked in her room and BAM - her belly is suddenly huge and lumpy. I knew there was a possibility that she might be developing eggs for the past week or so because her behavior has changed and her belly has seemed to grow a little, so I put an egg-laying bin in there last week with about 14 inches of moist playsand just in case. I didn't really think she was actually gravid though, so seeing her like that just now was sort of a shock to me. I've read Jann's blog about egg-laying and I thought I was prepared, but now that it's actually about to happen I am kind of freaking out. I want to dig a test hole, which I haven't done yet because I didn't really think she was old enough to develop eggs. (I was under the impression that she was 4-5 months, but maybe she is a bit older.) Anyway, does it matter if she sees me digging the test hole? Should I take the bin out to another room to do it? Or should I do it right in front of her? I can't decide which would be less stressful for her. Taking her to another place while I do it isn't an option because she has been extremely pissy the last few days and will not let me hold her.
