1) gravid females can and do stop eating prior to egg laying

2) i would constantly offer her a smaller amount of food as usual every other day and would offer water regularly as usuall just incase, main thing is keeping her hydrated.

3) what do you mean she keeps trying to escape alot? how so? i would deffinately offer her what she needs, but give her as much privacy as possible. where is the cage located? covering the sides of the cage up with a thin sheet would make her feel secure. dont be handling her or peeking on her as she could easily retain the eggs and become egg bound which could lead to serious problems and even death.

also, do you have pictures of your girl? who has told she is gravid? and are you sure she is gravid? pictures will deffinately help the members tell if she is or not.

well iv just posted things like oh she is trying to escape and she is not eating and she has receptive colours with like bright patches of orange but i see no signs of her digging at the bottom of her cage and i see no egg bumps either

and when i sed she tries to escape i mean everytime i open the cage she trys to get on my hand to get out

also i was thinking about showering her ti get her hydrated any thoughts on tahat please???

The colours are her adult colours, chams stop eating if they get bored of the same food. What are you feeding her on? Try her on something different. Also you hardly ever see a chameleon drink, i saw mine drink for the 1st time in months yesterday. As long as her urates are white then she is healthy and not dehydrated. 5months is rather young to have eggs, Pic's would really help. Are you in Newcastle in England? Just if the worst happened and you needed a good reptile vet i know one, im from Newcastle.

yeh im from newcastle and i usualy feed her waxworms and crickits she has went completely off the waxworms suprisingly but may have a crickit now and again

i will buy some locusts soon see how tht goes

Try her on locusts, roaches, super worms. There is a site called ricks live food you can get everything i said above also butterworms and sometimes he has silk worms in stock too. Good prices, fast delivery. She might just be bored of the food you give her, we wouldn't like to eat the same food every single day. :p Wax worms should only be given as a treat. The vets i take my reptiles to is Jacqui Paterson Vets tel number 01642 587777 Jacqui is amazing, all the staff are, really know there stuff with reptiles and none exotic pets. So if you ever need a vet or get some info i'd swear by them.

she is receptive, not gravid, unless she is gravid, retaining the eggs and is egg bound. she is very fat, and i dont understand the two large hang downs on her belly. i suggest you bring her to the vet for x rays and ultra sounds

Hey Jcarty, glad you came =D hope you get all the help, you will probably find this forum better than the other as it's specifically for chameleons.

she does look very fat from that pic. How much are you actually feeding her. I'd probably lay off the wax worms and give the locusts a go :)

yeh she is very fat but in that pic if u look closely her belly is laying on a piece of green wire thing iv got its like if a fat man was laying on a horizontal pole lol dont worry she hasnt go to fat droopy bellys

and yes i underestimated to fattyness of waxworms but i dont feed her them anymore but shes odd as if she is walking about she looks normal weight and you can even see her rib bones but sometimes when she is sitting there she looks very fat she used to eat alot wich i think helps her now that she isnt eating for full days often

yes shes female veiled at 5 months been in my care for about 3 month

i dont handle her only when i moved her into a new cage shes a bit of a grumpy one but is used to my hand being next to her

i will go off what i used to feed her since now she rarely eats, i used to give 4 crickits in morning time but not as soon as she wakes up then about another 5-6 at about 4 oclock i used reptilux calcipure but have now bought d3 supplement yesterday which she has had once today

i have a waterfall which i clean out she is not a good drinker tho iv noticed her eyes sunken in a bit now that she has stopped eating and drinking she used to be good as she would eat watermelon sometimes

used to have huge poos for her size propboaly because i fed her lots
and her urate was white but sometimes yellow now she just poos sand ball as she flicks her tounge at the sand for some reason but no impaction

the reason i fed her alot is that she was in a terrible cage at the pet store and tiny and thim and dark but when we got home she ate straight away and kept eating and grew much bigger in about 5 days i think its because she was too small for her age and she needed feeding so when she met her right weight for he rright age i didnt relise and kept feeding her but she wasnt life threatening fat tho lol

her cage is a wooden vivarium which has vents and u cut off the top and replaced with mesh which the heatplamp rests on aswel

she has a uvb bulb running all the way down her cage veticaly

has bamboo and these brown vine things to walk on also fake plantes all around the cage

has a laying bin with sand in which she eats a lil bit sometimes but yyyy??????? hasnt shown signs of trying to dig tho

i dont know the heat and humidity levels but i spray her cage about 2-3 times a day her cage is placed next to the iguanas cage but there both wooden sided so she has never seen him before

they are both in my room so they both see me regularly in my room

i am in newcastle

So did she eat the morning with the D3 on? I think you really should take the waterfall out, the are a breeding ground for germs.

She needs plain calcium 5x a week and calcium w/d3 2x a month. Get a multivitamin dust also 1-2x per month. I would cut back on her feeders now because she will prob lay an infertile clutch in a cpl of months. If you reduce the basking temp a cpl of degrees and reduce her feeders she should lay a smaller clutch. First you need to get a digital therm/hygrometer and measure your basking temp spot and the rel humidity of the cage. That should have been purchased long ago. You want her basking spot at about 83-85degrees. And rel humidity should be over 50% at all times.

NOOOOOOOO waterfall. Even if you do clean it every day bacteria can still live in it and veiled tend to poop in it and then go ahead and drink it.

You need to mist her with a sprayer and shes needs a dripper as well.

You need to STOP with the wax worms she is verrryyy FAT.
Only feed her every other day and not alot.
If she remains this fat when she lays her first clutch of eggs IT WILL BE HUGE.
And it WILL shorten her life, chams have been known to die at like 2 years old because of huge clutches and being over fed and FAT.

YOU NEED TO KNOW THE HEAT AND HUMIDITY LEVELS.
She could be frying for all you know.
Go out and buy a didigtal themometer/humidty guage.

Its normal for females to eat some of the sand.
What Kind of sand do you use?

I 2nd with what Ashley is saying, she must go on a diet! I know you felt sorry for her because of how the pet shop kept her but all this over feeding is no good. Your slowly killing her. I did the same with my cham, spoilt her like you wouldn't believe. From the stuff i've learnt on here from other people i realised i wouldn't have her much longer if i kept feeding her the way i did. :( Now she gets 2 size 5 locusts every 2 days. I change her food every week too so she doesn't get bored. It weren't easy at first, i felt guilty. But now it's fine i actually thinks she enjoys her food more now.

i will go out and buy a gauge thing tommorow what exactly do they do are they just a better way of telling what the humididty and temp is i have seen them in the pet shop but i went online and seen sum that had to be attached to and exoterra cage which i do not have is there othertypes

also she has had 2 crickits today one with d3 she wudnt take any more after that

also i think a reason that shes not eating is that she knows my ahnd goes in and out the cage so when i offer her a crickit by hand she ignores it and climbs up my arm but when i put one down next to her she took it

also any advice on locusts are they fast do they fly im gunna get small ones if that makes a difference about them i heard that they are better than feeding crickits

Get digital thermometers, much better then the stick on 1s. Thermometers can go in any cage.
http://www.livefoods.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=66&products_id=1025 This one is to check the humidity and this one is to check the temp http://www.livefoods.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=66&products_id=986 They are very important so you know the temps and humidity for your cham, once you get the Thermometers post your temps on here. So we can see if they are right for her. Locusts are much better than crickets, they jump i don't think they are that fast.
