Graceful Chameleon sleeping during the day.

Cage Info:

* Cage Type - Exoterra habitat
* Lighting - Two UV 5.0 bulbs/ 10 hours per day.
* Temperature - Day time 80 degrees/ night 70 degrees.
* Humidity - 80% with fogger, 60% without the fogger.
* Plants - No live plants.
* Location - Near a window in a very low traffic area.



Chameleon Info:

* Your Chameleon - Baby female graceful chameleon, unsure of exact age. Most likely wild caught.
* Feeding - Feeding small crickets a few times per week. I've only seen her eat and drink once a few weeks ago. I put about 30 tiny crickets in the cage about twice a week and they are gone in a few days.
* Supplements - Calcium once per week.
* Watering - Use a fogger and mist 2-3 times per day. I've seen her drink only once.
* Fecal Description - It's poop. Yellow and white?
* History -Very active for the first few weeks, has been sleeping and perching the last few days...see photo.
* Current Problem - Very skinny, sleeping alot, not sure if eating or drinking.

I was using the fogger everyday trying to maintain a high humidity. I was told that it was not necessary to maintain that high of humidity so I stopped using it every day. That's about when I noticed her sleeping a lot. Also she will stalk the crickets but she just sits there and looks looks at it then it crawls away. I've been looking for fruit flys but have not been able to find them. We've had her for about 3 weeks and I've only seen her eat the first week we've had her.

is she making noises? from that picture it looks like he/she may have an URI because her head is tilted up. Do you see any extra mucous in his/her mouth?

For supplements you're supposed to do

calcium without d3 everyday, calcium with d3 twice a month, and multivitamins twice a month.

You could start hand feeding to make sure she eats, and yellow urate usually is a sign of dehydration.

Not making any noise. Just sleeps with her head in the air like in the photo. I mist 2-3 times per day. Plenty for her to drink. It's hard to give supplements when I don't think she is eating or drinking. But I will buy some ASAP! I've tried hand feeding, she won't stay awake long enough to eat. I'm worried she won't make it. Not sure what to do.

no they do look similar though. they are 2 different species of chameleon.

that cham is severley dehydrated, get it some fluids and take it to the vet asap! that is your best bet!

How am I supposed to give her fluids? The nearest reptile vet is an hour away.

put a plant in the shower floor, put her in and angle the shower head on the wall infront of her, so the water isnt spraying her but the mist and over spray is landing on the tree. make sure its warm but not hot, you dont wanna hurt her. watch her in there for amout 30 mins to 45 mins. while ur watching her id call up a vet and make an apptmnt RIGHT away.

you can also take an eye dropper and drip water slowly on top of her nose to stimulate her to drink. Her eyes are very sunken in and she does not look good I hate to say.

I dont know where you live, but if possible take outside set on a branch or in a screen cage with a plant.... Turn on a hose with a light mist nozzle and spray spray spray... Several times a day. Let it hang out and shower that cham for 10-15 min intervals. Dont blast it either. I set my so its like a sprinkler just lightly misting the whole entire area and cage whenever i turn on the hose its already positioned.

Also...if you put so many in that she can't eat them in a day, the calcium/supplements will have fallen off by the time she eats the last of them. You should be gutloading/feeding the crickets with a nutritious diet and dusting with a phos.-free calcium powder at almost every feeding.
Most people dust with a phos.-free calcium/D3 powder twice a month and with a vitamin powder twice a month too.

She may have parasites so a fecal sample should be tested by a vet.

What brand and type (spiral, linear, compact, etc.) UVB light are you using?

When you mist, how long do you mist for? I can take 5 minutes or so to stimulate them to drink. Try spraying onto a branch or leaf in front of her so that big droplets form that she can see.

Also judging by comparison to your hand she looks very small. I wonder if the cage is too big for her to find the crickets?
