Gout?

I went to purchase a Dubai colony and they told me to be careful about feeding the dubias roach chow because it's high in protein and can cause gout. Is gout common? Should I not feed the roaches a roach chow?

I would not feed the roaches anything that you wouldn't feed to your crickets so no roach chow. My vet wrote something on this. I'll see if I can find it for you. Gout is not common in chameleons and a very painful and deadly thing for them to have.

Ok I wasn't sure because I'm not feeding crickets, I'm trying to replace crickets with dubia

You need to gut load the feeders with greens they are excellent. You can use collard greens, kale, bell pepper, carrots, butternut squash apple and orange. You can also buy a premixed dry gut load. My vet makes one that I use and one of the Forums members sales it. https://www.chameleonforums.com/dry-gutload-sale-37717/

Also you will need other feeders to offer besides just roaches.

Yes I will be using dubia, silkworms, occasional super worms and hornworms, and possibly dwarf cave roaches or MHC nymphs

You could use the chow for your colony and set ones you want to feed in another container with the good stuff in it. Let them empty their guts and feed on the good stuff for a few days to a week.

Well the roaches store the Uric acid from the roach chow because it's too much protein. Would thu survive off just the food I guy load them with or is the chow necessary
