Got my new custom cage!

So I just got my new custom cage from cagecompany.com and I'm really happy with it. It took a little longer to get than expected but I kept in touch with Steve over the phone to monitor progress, and I was more concerned with it being right then getting it fast. It looks real nice, waterproofed, and he made a drainage hole at the bottom for me so I can put a bucket in the stand to collect the run off. ATM I just furnished it haphazardly. I put moss at the bottom so if she falls she wont get hurt, not that I think she will but just in case. Plus I live in the desert so I'm hoping the moss will keep the humidity levels up.

You like?

fyi

I have 2 reptison 18" flourescent uvb bulbs. I got the 10.0 for more penetration due to screen and the height of the cage. Also 2 basking lamps 1 on each side. I'm gonna looke for a decent sized Hibiscus to place in there and I'm probably going to either put moss above the hibiscus soil or cut some plastic to fit it over the soil with just a hole for the trunk of the shrub.

the cage itself is 4 feet high, 3 feet wide, and 18 inches deep. The hood, not sure but it fits my lights nicely, and the stand again I'm not sure heh. Good idea with the rocks, I'm just worried that IF (hopefully never) she got sick and fell the rocks would hurt. Oh also, the door is screen, but the back and sides are solid, trying to trap that humidity and maintain good ventilation, and of course the top is screen.

Looks really nice, what species are you keeping? Do you really need 2 basking lights though? My Chams seem to like the top on the cooler side the most for just sitting and chilling.........don't want to force her to be lower or warmer than she would prefer:confused:........

I like the cage it looks pretty cool. Did you customize it yourself? If you don't mind me asking about how much does something like that run you? I built my first cage myself and it turned out really nice but it only 2x2x3 and I know he wil need another one when he grows up. I would def make another one but I like your too. Just trying to gather a few options in advance.

I think it is beautiful! The only thing is I don't like the idea of the chameleon not being able to see out just only from the front. That is JMO! Also, you mentioned the moss, and I am sure it looks nice, but I would remove. If feeders are loose(or get loose from cu) and you chameleon shoots at them he cound potentially injest the moss. Nice looking piece of furniture though!

the cage is very very beautiful, they did a very good job.

though the fact that you have TWO 10.0's worries me. what is the screen like? 10.0s should really only be takien in to consideration with cages like (flexariums where you have thick nylon mesh). maybe some others could deffinate this answer, but i would replace to 5.0 or just one 10.0 with the basking perch about 13-14 inches away from the bulb

As far as I know should the chameleon injest moss it would be like eating plants. It's a veiled so it likes it on the warmer side of things, hence the 2 basking lamps, each one is 75 watts. I only have 2 uvb lights because I couldnt find one long enough to go across the top. Basically each one is on each side so it's not like she getting direct light from both at alll times, unless she is in the middle. I read that if you have a tall cage it's not a bad idea to switch to 10.0's so it will go further down into it. But the screen is isn't too um.. darkening? Probably takes away as much light as a reptibreeze. Do you think the 10.0s are a bad idea even then? Figured she could self-regulate and just hide. What would be the downside of sticking with the 10.0? I still have a 5.0 from when she was in the reptibreeze, so I will switch one out to a 5.0 for now. I paid right around $550 for the cage, built. The shipping was right around $250, UPS frieght. I would have tried to tackle building my own enclosure but I had some extra money and no extra time so I opted for finding a good custom builder. This guy was pretty legit seemed like he knew well enough about chameleons. On top of that, considering how much some of the other custom cage places will charge, this was a steal.
