Good Sized Laying Bin & Substrate?

I'm going to start breeding high translucent veiled chams, and I was wondering what a good sized laying bin would be, and what is a good substrate for the laying bin?

I use organic topsoil (3/4) and playsand (1/4) mix. Bin is minimum 18"x18"x16".
